Metro workers laugh and make jokes as a lady is chased into the train station and assaulted

Plenty of posters on this thread actually have denied it.

As for their competence on their job -- how are you qualified to assess that?

They closed the entire metrorail system for one day because it was too dangerous to run, because maintenance had been so awful.

No, they closed the entire Metrorail system for one day because they needed to inspect all of the third-rail power cables. If you think that this proves that all Metro workers are incompetent, then maybe you also think that the MedStar hack proves that all MedStar workers are incompetent?

NP. You have no idea. I have had similar experiences with Metro booth "workers". They can be complete assholes.

Are you new to America? It's a valid term--deal with it.

But which color? There are people of color who are not black or African-American.

When people say they are a person of color I assume they are brown skinned but not black. Not sure why, maybe because black people usually just say they are black or african american.

But only if they're happy chipper WHITE people.

Sigh. I really hope that the racism on DCUM does not reflect the racism in real life, but I'm afraid that it probably does.

It does. Remember, DC metro area is chock full of transplants importing their racists attitudes from Boston, Selma, Macon, Cleveland, etc.

Would you rather have a skilled non black person with experience and education as an engineer or an AA like you but who was hired because he's buddies with a metro manager and an ex felon with barely a high school education?

Same here.

Unfortunately I have no trouble believing it.
I feel horrible for the victim.
The Metro employees probably are not allowed to let people in their booth, for the employees' safety. It must be a blanket rule. The shoe thing is also a rule on Metro. The problem is not the rules, but Metro employee attitude towards violence. They should respond immediately and be trained in a compassionate approach. However these employees are obviously poorly paid, stupid and unmotivated. They have seen it all, and their laugh shows that.

Now if they were better paid and better trained to respond, would fares go up? How would people like that?

They are well paid. They're just unmotivated.

Jesus! Is someone actually saying that metro employees are underpaid?!!? Please look at their compensation. It is several times minimum wage. I doubt you could find another unskilled job with no bachelor's degree required that paid so highly.

Other than janitors, which metro jobs are unskilled? Bus and train operators require a CDL license and the ability to get along with a nasty and demanding public. The plumbers, electricians, elevator and escalator techs are skilled. Which positions at metro that you interact with require no skills? Please understand there is a difference between being good with the required skills and unskilled.

By that logic, everyone is skilled. Hairdressers, secretaries, etc.

I agree that electricians and plumbers need schooling, but bus and train operators are taught on the job and the job pays for their CDL. The metro station managers are glorified greeters.

What skills do YOU have? Obviously understanding the meaning of common English words is not among them.

Wow. All 13,000 of them?!

I'm a union member, and pro organized labor...

But seriously metro needs to clean house. They give us all a bad name. It's literally like the worst stereotypes and caricatures.
They had to shut down to check the third raid - THAT HAD SUPPOSEDLY ALREADY BEEN CHECKED!
The only way shit like that is going down, is if people are checking the boxes on the forms and not doing the work. I don't doubt for a second that is what has been happening. I work in a blue collar field and I've heard what locals say about metro. " I know so and so... I'm gonna get me a job with metro..."
They were shit workers in my Union and now their off to polute another workforce.
Metro is a jobs program.
Not every worker, and I've had the pleasure to meet some very helpful dedicated workers with metro, but they are out numbered. The culture is dysfunctional.
Needs to change.

I know plenty of nasty, mean, bitter, unfriendly, rude lacking in social skills white people who I would not want to deal with in service type positions. It's not a black thing to be rude. Good grief.

No, of course it isn't. But there are plenty of DCUM posters who seem to think that it is.

+1 . Especially since it was a WHITE person who brought up race in this thread in the first place. No one checked that person. But when the Blacks respond, WE are the ones lectured that it is not about race. Heck tell that to the White PP who brought it up!
