I believe every word. Attendants are mostly jerks and interacting with them makes a person want to go "postal." Bad attitudes. Seems racial even. Yep I went there.
Yes, thank you! Glad you "went there". I have yet to encounter ONE attendant who will raise their head to even look at you if you ask a question through their protective plexiglass "office". Instead they either totally ignore you or mumble the answer while looking down. Horrible, nasty, racist assholes - all of them!
I've never had an attendant be rude or ignore me. Maybe you're encouraging this behavior? I find if you start a conversation looking for a fight, or to be treated poorly, you'll get it.
When I was new to DC I took my nephew on the metro on a busy day. As soon as he stepped into the car, the doors closed. I couldn't believe it. I didn't know what to do. I ran to the booth and the woman was completely unconcerned. He was ten years old. I just imagined him ending up somewhere terrible. I am sure I was hysterical. She said an employee would find him and speak with him. Nothing like that happened. A kind young man and his sister stayed with my nephew and had him call me when they got off at the intended spot and all went well because of a good samaritan. However, the metro employee's only concern was that I STFU. I didn't yell or anything like that but I'm sure I was hysterical. I'm sure I sound like an idiot and the incident would not have happened save my utter stupidity but it did happen and no one helped, offered empathy or even accepted that I was a human being expressing emotion in her presence. I absolutely believe this story. I would also believe a story about a really kind employee but there are definitely metro employees who are inept and indifferent.
As mentioned up thread, I've not had your experience with the subway attendees. And, I am not discounting your story. Your last sentence however puzzles me. Where do you work, where there are definitely no inept or indifferent employees?
New poster here. Absolutely NOTHING like metro. Sleeping on the job? Termination. Bring rude? No. Ignoring customers? Termination. Laughing at someone who would run into reception needing help? So unfathomable that I can't even comment. Not even remotely a possibility in my corporate culture.
