Metro workers laugh and make jokes as a lady is chased into the train station and assaulted

By that logic, everyone is skilled. Hairdressers, secretaries, etc.

I agree that electricians and plumbers need schooling, but bus and train operators are taught on the job and the job pays for their CDL. The metro station managers are glorified greeters.

They don't greet anybody! They are 100% unhelpful though. I have asked for assistance or a question and been completely ignored. I have also seen them sleeping in there many times.

Do you not live in DC? I use this metro everyday and I believe it 100%. A month ago they arrested some girls fighting and one had a fucking butcher knife. The teenagers are out of control. The metro employees won't be fired because they are Union. I hope weisefeld can break the metro Union.

Has he mentioned even a peep about the gross MISmanagement over the years that necessitated a complete shut-down? No.

The Metro employees probably are not allowed to let people in their booth, for the employees' safety. It must be a blanket rule. The shoe thing is also a rule on Metro. The problem is not the rules, but Metro employee attitude towards violence. They should respond immediately and be trained in a compassionate approach. However these employees are obviously poorly paid, stupid and unmotivated. They have seen it all, and their laugh shows that.

Now if they were better paid and better trained to respond, would fares go up? How would people like that?

They are well paid. They're just unmotivated.

Jesus! Is someone actually saying that metro employees are underpaid?!!? Please look at their compensation. It is several times minimum wage. I doubt you could find another unskilled job with no bachelor's degree required that paid so highly.

Other than janitors, which metro jobs are unskilled? Bus and train operators require a CDL license and the ability to get along with a nasty and demanding public. The plumbers, electricians, elevator and escalator techs are skilled. Which positions at metro that you interact with require no skills? Please understand there is a difference between being good with the required skills and unskilled.

Yes, thank you! Glad you "went there". I have yet to encounter ONE attendant who will raise their head to even look at you if you ask a question through their protective plexiglass "office". Instead they either totally ignore you or mumble the answer while looking down. Horrible, nasty, racist assholes - all of them!

I've never had an attendant be rude or ignore me. Maybe you're encouraging this behavior? I find if you start a conversation looking for a fight, or to be treated poorly, you'll get it.

No, I think the person overreacted and got very scared of a minor situation and panicked. It sounds almost like they were taunting her and bullying her because she was acting like a nutball and running.

I was FREEZING once waiting for a bus to arrive at the Vienna metro station. I was huddled over by the fare machines trying to keep out of the cold/wind/tunnel as my bus wasn't due for maybe 40 minutes. The metro station attendant there invited me into the booth to stay warm. I declined. But he was friendly and was going to let me in his booth!
