Metro workers laugh and make jokes as a lady is chased into the train station and assaulted

The booth is for their protection. Imagine anyone just running up saying they need help to get inside? Should they have laughed and made comments? No, of course not, but they followed proper protocol.

Oh please!! so this is your attempt at excusing their disgusting inhuman behavior?

NP. I've not had your experience, and I've been riding the metro since 1978.

Same here.

Unfortunately I have no trouble believing it.
I feel horrible for the victim.
The Metro employees probably are not allowed to let people in their booth, for the employees' safety. It must be a blanket rule. The shoe thing is also a rule on Metro. The problem is not the rules, but Metro employee attitude towards violence. They should respond immediately and be trained in a compassionate approach. However these employees are obviously poorly paid, stupid and unmotivated. They have seen it all, and their laugh shows that.

Now if they were better paid and better trained to respond, would fares go up? How would people like that?

They are well paid. They're just unmotivated.

And usually felons themselves hence the lack of compassion.

“Dear PoPville,

I was walking home from the grocery store and crossing Randolph when a blue Altima made a full at full speed almost hitting into me. I put my hand on the car out of instinct when you are about to be hit. They were so pissed I touched there car. They went into the Wendy’s turned around and chased me down with their car. There were 5 people in the car. I ran towards the metro because I saw police there earlier. No police were outside so I ran into the station.

2 of the girls jumped out of the car and ran down into the metro station after me. I was banging on the booth asking for help. The metro attendant took his time and called the police. He did not offer me refuge in the booth. Instead only let me on the other side of the turnstiles where the girls then took a full box of bus schedules that was left on the floor and slammed it against my head. The other metro lady found this funny and laughed. The metro janitor also laughed saying should I clean this up or is this evidence. The metro police came 15 to 20 mins after being called followed by the dc police.

I had a partial license plate, car type and color. Both the girls were caught on camera. They said “I Guess we can request footage” No one asked me one if I was okay. Metros safety push is a joke. I have never felt more unsafe. I want to get word out of what happened so no one else makes the mistake of thinking of going to metro as a safe haven like I did. Assault to them seems to be funny.”
this would be the Georgia avenue Petworh stop, so why would you run underground. That area is fully congested with stores and police everywhere.

It says Randolph which would be Wheaton or possibly White Flint metros. Very car-centric suburban areas. Probably a ton of cars around, not necessarily a single person who wasn't in a car.

If it's car centric, please tell me which grocery store she was walking from to get home? Randolph Street NW is approximately one-half to two blocks from the Petworth Metro, depending upon your route. There's a grocery store and lots of other stores around there. It's an urban area with pedestrians, cyclists, and hangers all around. I don't understand running down into a dark station opposed to one of the many stores above ground. That's is one of the reasons why I am having difficulty believing this story.

There are restaurants as well. Did the story teller drop her bag of groceries while in flight?

Jesus! Is someone actually saying that metro employees are underpaid?!!? Please look at their compensation. It is several times minimum wage. I doubt you could find another unskilled job with no bachelor's degree required that paid so highly.

Other than janitors, which metro jobs are unskilled? Bus and train operators require a CDL license and the ability to get along with a nasty and demanding public. The plumbers, electricians, elevator and escalator techs are skilled. Which positions at metro that you interact with require no skills? Please understand there is a difference between being good with the required skills and unskilled.

Thing is unskilled workers are hired for a skilled job at metro based on nepotism and racism. I posted this a year ago http://www.washingtontimes.com/news/2012/mar/26/metro-derailed-by-culture-of-complacence-incompete/?page=all

Metro booth workers are not there to be security. Why would a Metro worker protect someone and potentially get themselves involved?

This person is not telling the whole story. What did she say to them?

Your reasoning is bizarre - if someone comes after you violently you don't attempt to run away from them simply because it's light our, and lightness indicates you bust out your Bruce Lee moves instead? Or stand there and get assaulted? People run because they're afraid, that happens in the daytime too.

And a lot of people interfere when they see people being assaulted. It's called being a human being.

DP. With the proliferation of guns, most people do not physically intervene. If they want to go home to their children, and are unsure if the assailant is packing a gun or is high on PCP, most people would call the police and film. It's called being a thinking human being.

Yes, thank you! Glad you "went there". I have yet to encounter ONE attendant who will raise their head to even look at you if you ask a question through their protective plexiglass "office". Instead they either totally ignore you or mumble the answer while looking down. Horrible, nasty, racist assholes - all of them!

That's interesting, because EVERY attendant I have asked for help has helped me. And I've been riding Metro since 1985. And I'm white.

There, now we have two anecdotes.

Why would somebody at the Wheaton or White Flint Metros e-mail the (former) Petworth blog?

Do you not live in DC? I use this metro everyday and I believe it 100%. A month ago they arrested some girls fighting and one had a fucking butcher knife. The teenagers are out of control. The metro employees won't be fired because they are Union. I hope weisefeld can break the metro Union.

I'm no. Randolph street is in petworth. It's one block north of the metro. Lots of suburbanites on here this morning.

He seems to be nothing but a good public relations guy with no guts to hold people responsible.

In your mind, shutting down metro for a day = good public relations?

NO! There is also a Randolph in DC a few blocks from the Petworth metro. Jeez, do you think that the only Randolph is in Maryland? Google Petworth Metro and blow the map up and look at where Randoph is. WHY would she be posting on POP if this happened in MD?
