“Dear PoPville, I was walking home from the grocery store and crossing Randolph when a blue Altima made a full at full speed almost hitting into me. I put my hand on the car out of instinct when you are about to be hit. They were so pissed I touched there car. They went into the Wendy’s turned around and chased me down with their car. There were 5 people in the car. I ran towards the metro because I saw police there earlier. No police were outside so I ran into the station. 2 of the girls jumped out of the car and ran down into the metro station after me. I was banging on the booth asking for help. The metro attendant took his time and called the police. He did not offer me refuge in the booth. Instead only let me on the other side of the turnstiles where the girls then took a full box of bus schedules that was left on the floor and slammed it against my head. The other metro lady found this funny and laughed. The metro janitor also laughed saying should I clean this up or is this evidence. The metro police came 15 to 20 mins after being called followed by the dc police. I had a partial license plate, car type and color. Both the girls were caught on camera. They said “I Guess we can request footage” No one asked me one if I was okay. Metros safety push is a joke. I have never felt more unsafe. I want to get word out of what happened so no one else makes the mistake of thinking of going to metro as a safe haven like I did. Assault to them seems to be funny.” |
| Wow, this is terrible. I'm sorry this happened to you - and it's disgusting that the workers reacted this way. |
| She needs to do more than complain on Popville. She needs to write a letter to Wiedefeld and everyone else she can think of: the Post, a local listserve, metro police and MPD, etc. |
| I gotta say I'm pretty skeptical that this is a true story... |
| I was running from an attempted rape into a metro station a few years ago. I broke the strap on my high heel. The metro manager refused to allow me in through the turnstiles because my shoe wouldn't stay on. I just cried and cried and then got a taxi. Felt really unsafe waiting above ground for that taxi. |
| I find this hard to believe. |
|
Wow, drivers can sure get crazy about their cars.
When will the driving community do something about this? |
| This is awful. I live in SF and a couple of years ago some guy high on meth went crazy, naked, in a Bart station. The people let anyone nearby into their booth for safety. As it should be. |
| What is the Metro's official policy in regards to allowing patrons into booths. I am guessing the workers have been instructed not to let people in as it is a liability to them. |
Same here. |
Unfortunately I have no trouble believing it. I feel horrible for the victim. The Metro employees probably are not allowed to let people in their booth, for the employees' safety. It must be a blanket rule. The shoe thing is also a rule on Metro. The problem is not the rules, but Metro employee attitude towards violence. They should respond immediately and be trained in a compassionate approach. However these employees are obviously poorly paid, stupid and unmotivated. They have seen it all, and their laugh shows that. Now if they were better paid and better trained to respond, would fares go up? How would people like that? |
They are well paid. They're just unmotivated. |
Jesus! Is someone actually saying that metro employees are underpaid?!!? Please look at their compensation. It is several times minimum wage. I doubt you could find another unskilled job with no bachelor's degree required that paid so highly. |
Porn? Just sayin cause you asked. |
Not a steady paycheck. And a FT Metro employee probably make much more on an annual basis. And that job certainly does not come with the generous benefits WMATA employees receive (excellent health care, defined benefit pension, and comprehensive workplace disability/injury coverage). Porn is a dead-end industry. |
