Dear middle-aged women: capri pants do nothing for you.

Anonymous
The picture on this page is of ugly capris. Not all capris are ugly. I have and like pants, skirts, shorts, and yes capris. I am on the short side and thin and they look good on me. My husband likes them. My husband is straight and has opinions about clothes - both his and mine and even our kids - and those opinions include the length of the pants. And he likes capris on me. So, there is one straight man anyway.

OP, why do you care about what other people are wearing? Honestly, I really want to know. Why do people make such a big deal about what OTHER people are wearing?

Because they are vapid and bored.

I'm not the OP and I disagree with her position - but I honestly don't get whey people criticize posters on this forum for making comments about whether they like or dislike a certain fashion. That is one of the points of this particular forum, to discuss beauty, fashion and fitness. It is not just appropriate for a poster to make a comment like this here. It is in fact invited, encouraged, the whole point of the forum. If you think discussions about the pros and cons of specific fashions are beneath you or mean spirited I can't for the life of me understand what you are doing on a beauty, fashion, fitness forum.

Hmmm, well one does have the option of discussing fashion without being mean-spirited and nasty. It would be fine to say, "I don't like capris. I don't find them flattering to any body type." OP, instead, decided to point out that middle aged women look terrible in capris. Naturally, middle-aged women who wear capris took offense. Also, after OP's original sweeping statement about middle-aged women, several posters made absurd statements about what men think of capris, about men cheating on their wives because of capris, etc. All of this was alarmingly stupid and inspired some teasing. It's true that the OP has a right to make nasty statements about the fashion choices of other women on the fashion forum. And it's also appropriate for women who make those very same fashion choices to take offense and point out that OP is vapid, shallow, judgmental, and mean. Maybe that is the point of fashion but it's not wrong to point it out.

This. The OP said previously she happened to find this site via Google (is not a mom). Which is fine of course, but then she made the leap from that, to write a highly inflammatory post. I mean look at the title! Its not like she would send an email to her friends who happen to wear capris with that subject line. Or her parents friends if that is the generation she is talking about. It was mean, period.

I'm pretty sure middle aged women wearing Tory Burch sandals and capris are responsible for the nation's financial meltdown.

You all seem very upset that your beloved (ugly) capris have been insulted.

I wore mine on Monday and Wednesday in black and khaki bc I had to metro to DC for trainings and did not want my pants to get soaked by the rain. They were awesome...no saggy wet pants!

I thought this was a forum for sharing advice, preferably to help each other out, not cut each other down. If you post nasty things, expect a swift and negative response.

I happen to think it's good advice.

Regardless of whether it is good advice or not, it was delivered in a nasty, inappropriate way. There are much better ways to post a recommendation if it is truly meant to be helpful. Let's face it, OP was just looking to start something and she did.

Anonymous wrote:Use the term sexual prejudice, then. Call it what you want, but "Any man who doesn't like capris on a woman is gay" is an untrue statement that is insulting to both homosexual and heterosexual men.

It's not about noticing a difference of a few inches. It's that a man, regardless of who he likes to sleep with, can tell whether he finds this look attractive or unattractive

My straight husband hates capris. I still wear them once in awhile, I know they aren't the most fashionable, but I could do worse!

You should definitely accuse him of cheating on you. He probably can't take it anymore that your pants do not always reach your ankles!

Contrary to some of these posters, my capris has not made him run out and cheat on his dumpy wife. He is always willing to make my capris reach my ankles or get me out of them all together. He's helpful like that.

OP, I strongly suspect you look awful in capri pants. What else would drive someone to post this meaningless troll like thread? You likely look awful in many things. Back off and don't quit your day job, because style consultant ain't working for you.

I would much rather hang out with someone that is not a backstabber (as you are); than someone who pretends to know anything about fashion.

Could you be any more shallow and judgmental?

I seriously doubt you even know this song, but . . . the message TO YOU hits at around 1:40 - http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=kNYKxiRJ2LA

- from an "old gal" who looks damn good in capris

Anonymous wrote:Nothing good, that is.

I went to an event today and many men and women in their 40s and 50s were in attendance. Most of the men wore polo shirts tucked in under their pot bellies and shorts.

Nearly all the women wore capri pants. Capri pants do nothing for you. If you are short, you don't look good in capri pants. If you are fat, you don't look good in capri pants. If you are tall, you don't look good in capri pants. If you are thin, you don't look good in capri pants. No matter the body type or age, capri pants are not flattering.

I say this lovingly. Wear anything else- anything! Shorts (long shorts, if you want to; even short shorts look better than capris), a skirt, pants, anything but capri pants. They make everyone look stumpy and shapeless. No one looks good in them.
