Dear middle-aged women: capri pants do nothing for you.

I went to an event today and many men and women in their 40s and 50s were in attendance. Most of the men wore polo shirts tucked in under their pot bellies and shorts.

Nearly all the women wore capri pants. Capri pants do nothing for you. If you are short, you don't look good in capri pants. If you are fat, you don't look good in capri pants. If you are tall, you don't look good in capri pants. If you are thin, you don't look good in capri pants. No matter the body type or age, capri pants are not flattering.

I say this lovingly. Wear anything else- anything! Shorts (long shorts, if you want to; even short shorts look better than capris), a skirt, pants, anything but capri pants. They make everyone look stumpy and shapeless. No one looks good in them.

I agree - it's not just middle aged women though, it's everyone. My 2 year old looks cute in capris but I think anyone beyond little girls should not wear them.

I've never, ever understood their popularity or why people think they look good. Even models don't look good in them!

You know, I think women wear capri pants b/c they absolutely KNOW shorts look terrible on them and so they figure capris are a summery compromise. At least they cover up the cellulite and varicose veins (and I'm speaking for myself here as much as for anyone else). Shorts are worse, IMO.

Well, I am tall and look great in cigarette/skinny cropped pants. But I agree capri especially with flared bottoms do nothing for me.

I think so too. Honestly, I think the women should just wear shorts. I don't care if they're overweight, I don't care if they have varicose veins. Capri pants just make everyone look strange.

No ageism here (unless you want to say I'm ageist against everyone who's hit puberty).

Like a pp said, capris are cute on the 12 and under crowd. After that, they just don't look good. I don't care if you're an athletic twenty year old or a fit forty year old. Odds are they're just not flattering. I only specified middle-aged women because they're the only ones I have seen in them. If every twenty-something I saw today had been in capris, my thread title would have been "Dear 20 year olds: capris do nothing for you."

Also, what sexism? If I had said men look good in capris but women look terrible I could see where the allegation was coming from. As far as I know, capri pants aren't a style for men. If they are and I've just missed it, I imagine they make men look strange too.

This isn't like the thread that says once you're over a certain age/weight you shouldn't wear shorts. I'm just trying to spread the friendly message that I have seen more leprechauns than I have people who look good in capris.

42 year old here who loves her capris. If you find the right cut for your body type, they look totally fine. I wear shorts too, but not until true summer. This weather is great for capris.
