What are people’s guesses. Will I have to use leave (ie we’re open) or not?

very few people in the US are impacted.

to me it further demonstrates how bloated the bureaucracy has become. i think many others see the same.

only the folks inside beltway sucking at the taxpayer trough are having a bad time.

You're not impacted because there are still people, including myself, still showing up to work to make functions continue. If they ran shutdowns in a way where NOBODY reported to work, they would never happen.

Exactly. Non essential people are often offices like HR. IT, contracting, or even program offices. You don’t need HR every day and outsiders will never feel the impact of a missing HR. But employees will when they want to hire and just can’t because there’s no HR. Or they want to discipline and can’t. Shutting down non essential offices is like deferring maintenance; you can only defer maintenance for so long before it’s more costly to do the actual maintenance than it would have been in the first place.

I’m a non essential employee who works on litigation. Sure, you can fire me, but who would do the litigation? Currently it’s just piled up. It’s no wonder we lose most cases. We’re always incredibly understaffed and can’t focus on cases the way private sector can.

Military will only receive one paycheck, then it’s back to no pay Nov 1.

A government shutdown won’t disrupt our Thanksgiving or Christmas so both parties are welcome to do nothing as far as I’m concerned.

Right. Because it’s all about you. Selfish ass.

A reasonable person in reasonable times would think that we’d open up this week. I am hearing various rumblings about off-ramp strategies, yet neither side is biting. Problem is, these aren’t reasonable times and DC is filled with jabrones.

In reality, we are going to be closed until Thanksgiving, with at least another 40k employees RIFd.

I think it could come down to how the elections in November play out. If it’s a democratic sweep, this may motivate fhe GOP to realize they have a problem

Liberty Vote would like a word.

Our office has not converted all its computers from Windows 10, which ended support today, Oct 14. Which means a lot of government computers are no longer compliant and are security risks.

That’s a plus in their mind. Better for Russia and China and Mossad

How can they expect essential workers to work without pay that long? TSA? VA doctors? IT? Top political staff even?
