The United States Feels Like a Sad, Empty, Dark Place

We preach acceptance and diversity yet everyone must fit into some arbitrary narrow little box in order to feel a sense of belonging.

Agree.

I am firing people left and right for gross incompetence.

They can’t write, focus, spell, punctuate, reason, think, do math, pay attention, speak in complete sentences yet are college and high school Grads.

The amount of “work” we have to check, review and redo has never been higher. Very sad state of education and unprepared work force.

They’re toast. Go back and take remedial high school classes at a community college, pay attention and put the damn phones and Chromebooks away. Start over on your education and basic skills. Many don’t have any.

So hire older folks that know how to show up and focused, write, spell, punctuate do math, pay attention, organize work hard and speak in complete sentences.

DP I have never been LESS enthusiastic about July 4. Not much to celebrate.

They don’t hire them because they’re over 45. Ageism remains the last acceptable discrimination apparently.

So true. We need to first work on getting rid of this wannabe King and then we can properly celebrate 4th of July again.

There are tons of little kids in my block and they’re outside playing all the time. One tiny little girl who couldn’t have been older than 6 rang my doorbell the other day to hand out flyers for a 4th of July block party. She was completely by herself carrying a clipboard, crossing off a list of house numbers as she went. It was adorable.

I don’t know what these neighbors’ politics are—although I’m pretty sure one of the families with little kids has two moms, so that could be a clue—but regardless, I will probably stop by the block party to meet my neighbors who I otherwise just drive past almost every day. (My kids are older teens and these neighbors only recently moved in.)

All this to say, there are still decent people out here who just want to get to know and spend time with other decent people.

No, we DON’T all feel this way.

I’m really optimistic for the future, because we have a president who isn’t afraid to address the problems that have been building for decades, in particular, millions of people who are here illegally and shouldn’t be.

I do not think most of these illegals immigrants are bad people - BUT - they shouldn’t be here. I wouldn’t be allowed to just show up in Mexico or Guatemala, get a job, use govt resources and schools for citizens, and stay there indefinitely. I’d get kicked out. Same thing should apply here.

Likewise, I’m happy we’re finally addressing trade imbalances and unfair tariff practices by other countries while the US doesn’t reciprocate equal tariffs. Personally, I think tariffs should look like a mirror, where we base our own tariffs on goods from other countries at the same exact rate they set for US made goods.

Iran should never have a nuclear weapon and we’re finally putting teeth into that, rather than bribing them with billions of dollars that they then use to fund the exact nuclear program they accepted bribes to not pursue.

So no, drama llamas, not everyone shares your ridiculous dystopian outlook.

Absolutely no one is stopping you from going someplace else. Nothing.

The United States doesn’t need a wall to keep people in.

Just leave. You can reside in Greece with only a €250k investment in real estate. Or put €500k into a Portuguese investment fund and they will give you EU residence that you can use to live anywhere. No need to stay in a country you find dark and depressing. Make things happen.

If you look for a way out, you'll find it. I believe in you.

Um, no.

We can have a president that does what you describe WHILE not disregarding the constitution, upholding their oath of office (not causing an insurrection). Accepting the will of the people which the current president didn’t do in 2020. Not slamming judge’s rulings because you don’t like it. We don’t need someone in charge that has the temperament my son had when he was 5 yrs old!

Could go on and on and on.

Thanks pp. I totally agree.

I am so optimistic for the future in so many ways.

We were lied to about so much by the previous administration. So glad they are gone. Hopefully for good. No member of that admin should ever be able to work in politics again.

We’ve had a succession of Presidents who all acted very presidential…… and left us with the mess that Trump is cleaning up.

Between Presidential and Trump, I’ll take Trump right now. Because at least his UNpresidential ass is trying to fix things in care about. We can go back to presidential presidents when stuff is fixed.
