The United States Feels Like a Sad, Empty, Dark Place

beside the point. The fact is America isn't what it used to be. And we can be sad about that.

The internet is brainwashing you, quit social media, limit the internet and you may become a more content individual. We have more than enough here, have you ever visited a foreign country? Ever lived anywhere else? Visiting a foreign country is one thing, living there is another. There’s a good reason why people want to immigrate here and it’s not always for jobs.

I doubt Op knows what’s actually going on in major Asian, LatAm, or European countries right now - politically, economically, educationally, or socially.

Yes, I have lived elsewhere but right now I don't need to live anywhere else to see the un-American pile of crap that is surrounded us right now.

Where I am ice is disappearing people. There is an active environment that is driving people good hard-working people and the people that know and care about them to an underground existence. It's truly horrifying.

I think you're the one that needs to get out into your country and see what is going on right now. Open your eyes.

There is no pleasure living in the US due to politics, standards of living, how expenses it is, the lack of real freedoms, half of the country engulfed by the maga cult even when facts stare them in the face, a broken and cruel SCOTUS who insists on unlimited executive power that has sealed our fates as a country, AI taking over, and tech bros being clearly in charge, our way of life being dismantled, education on its knees…there is no amount of praying that will ever see us through, it’s over for all of us. It’s too late.

OP, it’s not too late. If you stood on a corner with a sign that criticized the Trump admin would you be put in jail? NO. Until you can’t do that it’s not too late.

Please, turn off news/social media and volunteer for the VA elections. Attend a Tesla Takedown, get a group of friends to do a sign wave (literally holding signs on street corner). Go to Indivisible.org and find an event or group. Check out Mobilize. There are multiple events daily!

There is zero excuse for doing nothing. This is for anyone on this thread who wants to doom and gloom. It’s hard, but giving up is not an option. I say this with love and compassion: Stop complaining and Act.

This is all true, but for a lot of people that had it good for a really long time this is a time of reckoning that will require these moments of realization.

People will need to this dark realization to move forward.

This is how black people have felt for 400 years but no one cared then, nor do they care now.

If this were true, Trump wouldn't be President.

This is what we get when we are a country where everything is about money and where people only look out for themselves and their own children. The capitalism, consumerism, and individualism have finally caught up with us. Just read any number of the threads here on DCUM as a window into all of these things. We shouldn’t be surprised, but we should aim to do better.

Mine at work has and even at other events. People are just less careful with what they say. They at least unconsciously view people as disposable. They give themselves leeway to act poorly because it seems to be justified by the culture. It's an every day occurence.

Be more specific. How long have you worked, what industry, what geo, what type of company (large, small, for profit, non profit, HQ where, public or private or family owned). What are your expectations of your career and your employer? Anyone report to you? Do you manage your career or expect something else to?

Yes. I know several people who have been laid off and are looking for work. There are multiple houses for sale on my street. Yes. My personal reality has actually changed.

Dramatic much, OP?

Go watch Squid Games season 3 - that will make you feel better about America.

Exactly, we got non stop 2-3m of illegal economic migrants here for the wage arbitrage MONEY. and they use the *free* public taxpayer schools, health systems, roads, aid systems right away and heavily.

Then they work cash jobs and remit billions to their real countries to build family homes, buy stuff there and fund extended family schooling or chain migration to USA.

Always about the money.

Yeah, I don’t agree and it’s people with your attitude that bring us down. So, either shut up and pull yourself up or stop. Or better yet go live somewhere better if you can find that fictional place. Stop believing everything you read on the internet and live your own unique life to the best of your ability.

Wow- you probably talk to yourself like this too and are tired of it.. “Shut up and pull yourself together”. “Go live somewhere better”. You are just saying that to silence the fear you have in you. I”m sorry for you

OP, do not come here for sympathy. Your post is more likely to attract MAGA trolls than sympathetic readers. MAGA use this forum for entertainment/sport or therapy to manage their anger issues. They are itching for posts like yours to unload on.

I’ve worked since the year 2000. Have seen many over hiring/ lay off cycles, myself included but when a boss was protecting her position.

Did I cry and blame America?

No. I was mad and called my network of supporters who had been through the same, talked with my family, and then instigated my job search plan for the year. Ended up relocating, and happy.

I’ll do that again and again if I have to.

It’s part of being an adult. And a job search. In any country. Keep your skills, attitude and network up.
