Why do Rs hate the LGBTQ community?

I am a democrat, btw.

I have a gay son who has known he was gay since he was 11, and he never had any doubt. He’s gay.

My daughter was straight, went to college and met many, many people who are LGBTQ, especially bi. Also became immersed in lots of bisexual pop culture. She came out as bi, and even had a relationship with a girl for awhile. She is now in a relationship with a guy and no longer considers herself bi. This has been the same with several of her friends.

So, what I’m saying is that it is not a choice to be gay. But also, in many circles, it is definitely trendy right now to identify as LGBTQ so kids are convincing themselves of it. But also, college-aged kids experimenting with their sexuality is nothing new. They are just more open about it now.

Also, the more they see adults clutch their pearls about it, the more intrigued they become with it.

OP here. Agree. This is what I am saying. We need to stop allowing this to be a thing. My daughter knew she was gay at age 10. And she still is. However my sister and a best friend in college both experimented and are now married to men.

And here you go again. Who are you to “allow” other people to think differently than you? Why do you think you get to determine what everyone else believes?

There are many gay Republicans and always have been. The issue is with the T. They think the normalization of gender fluidity among adolescents has been harmful for children. And they believe trans women competing against biological girls and women is inherently unfair. So too allowing biological males inside women's prisons, domestic abuse shelters, and so on. I'm not sure why Democrats are digging in on this issue. The vast majority of Americans are with Republicans on the issue of trans people in women's spaces.

Extremely well articulated. Thank you.

Our library had LGBTQ books available for students to check out. Sometimes the counselor would guide specific students to those books as they saw necessary. I never read one out loud, and I don’t know if any of my co-workers did either. Simply because our reading material has to apply to our content.

Now I work in a fairly conservative district. Our counselor is conservative and likely does not discuss these topics or guides kids to reading material. I honestly don’t know if our library has the books. It just hasn’t come up.

We did have a guest speaker one time, at my current school, who uses they/them. I simply told the kids this beforehand and it was no big deal. I also let parents know simply by putting in newsletter that Jim Bob Smith (they/them) will be coming to talk to the class. No questions or pushback from parents.

This issue is not overtaking schools the way people think.

I’m sure I would have parents opting kids out if something LGBTQ-related did come up - fine. Whatever. I have had parents opt their kids out of state assessments, any reference to war, Halloween, the puberty talk, SpongeBob Squarepants, riding the bus to a field trip, recess when temp is below 35, their music program, and PE. It’s your kid. Whatever.

Clearly you don’t go to MCPS or GDS here in Wash dc area.

Jazz Jennings book is read aloud to the second grade class, each year.

Because a) they believe being LBGTQ is a choice on some level b) they’re afraid of their kids being LGBTQ and so they want all references removed out of fear their child will be “convinced.”

And it’s their right to believe that. So leave other parents alone. Raise your kids the way you want but you don’t get to force your beliefs on other people’s kids at taxpayer funded schools without an opt out.

Key word there— belief.

One day someone will sue their school district because they smoke and the health teacher dared to say smoking causes cancer and little Larla is traumatized and went home crying begging for her parents to stop smoking. And they don’t believe smoking always causes cancer because they go to the gym and feel just fine and nana and George Burns smoked and lived until 100.

No. Religions don't take much of a stance on smoking or the origins of cancer. Culturally, smoking has been more or less common worldwide. It's not the same. I know OP doesnt want to talk about religion. But it's impossible not to, when religion has shaped our culture for thousands of years.

Religion has shaped our country for the worse. Christians have caused untold amounts of suffering throughout the entire existence of the religion. Religion is at the root of every societal injustice in out history. From slavery to genocide of the indigenous populations to woman’s suffrage there were the christian’s trying to stand in the way. Just leave us alone already.

The plaintiffs are Muslim.

What a tired argument.

67 million dead from atheist Stalin.
40 million from Mao Zedung.
3 million Pol Pot.

Those are just some examples. Mankind is cruel. That’s not a religious thing.

Evil dictators usually murder tons of people. Religion has nothing to do with it.

Religion has killed many millions in the name of their beliefs. That’s a fact. If someone kills my family because they are not “believers” then that religion is evil. Whataboutism doesn’t change that truth. If god were real then he wouldn’t allow mass murder in his name and if he did then he is not a benevolent god. If god was real then he can either be omnipotent or humans can have free will. Either/or. The two concepts cannot be true simultaneously.

You’re welcome to believe that. You’re not welcome to teach that to other people’s children as a condition of their attending public school. Whether you agree or not, it’s a moral/religious question and schools are supposed to be teaching facts.

Well, lucky for you it is not one of the state standards for my grade level, so I won’t be teaching them that. Btw, what state or common core standards are you guys referring to when you rant about this stuff being taught in schools? Can you provide a link? You do know that teachers can’t just teach whatever we feel like, right?

+1 they keep saying they're not culture warriors and then keep pushing for a culture war. Please go live as you please and stop pushing lgbtq+ lifestyle like the christians you oppose push theirs.

Question for you OP:

- why are you so truly ignorant about “the Rs” and oblivious to the fact there are wide varieties of opinions on what constitutes LGTBQIA++ rights among BOTH parties?

If you wanted to be real, you'd acknowledge that this discussion is about young children not college students or adults.

Well elementary children are exposed to college culture because of their unfettered access to internet and social media. So the line between elementary and college culture is blurred, to say the least. Your 9 year old sees/knows about the same LGBTQ pop culture that my college daughter sees.

This has already been answered. It’s the state law in places like California and NJ. Feel free to look online for examples of what is mandated in those state curricula including in the K levels.

You get an F in theology . Seriously you are out of your depth in this discussion so give it a rest. No, it’s not either or.

Again - why is this even an issue to begin with? There’s a reason teachers don’t read books about periods, circulations, breast enhancements, anal cancer to 2nd graders. It just seems like a total lack of common sense.

Frankly I don’t care much about the T when it comes to all the issues you mention. No trans woman is going to rape a woman. Or rather the chances of that are far less than rape in general. People are making a big deal of something so minor. I am a Dem and I have two daughters. I am not worried at all about a trans woman competing against them. It is so so unlikely.

The only place a trans woman should be prohibited from competing is in the Olympics. It is unfair for a person who is biologically male to compete in female olympic athletic competitions. But college sports? Why not? There are so few gifted elite trans athletes that it is a non-issue, except to the Republicans who use it as a steel bat to hammer at the Democrats.

Why does anyone care? If you aren't trans, why does this matter to you? Does a trans person affect your life in any way?

If your kid is trans, so what? If they are happy, that's all that matters. It doesn't affect me, nor does it affect you.

Dp here. I don’t see op trying to push anything. Just genuinely wondering why you all can’t just let others live their lives. Why do you care if someone is gay or trans? Seriously, WHY DO YOU CARE? And don’t say that you don’t want your kids exposed to it. You aren’t worried about your kids being exposed to…oh I don’t know…a school shooter, or a gun at a friend’s house that isn’t locked up. I could go on, but you get the point.
