MAGA here. I am fine with LGBTQetc. I'm not fine having to constantly center on their experiences. Also not fine with religious people being called bigots if they object to celebrating Pride events. I'm also not fine with, for example, flying Pride flags outside our embassies in Muslim nations. And basically any other aggressive assertion of gay values where people have deeply held beliefs about it being sinful.
I know the canned responses to all this. "But we have to center on straightness and we have our beliefs assaulted by a heteronormative culture!" Yes. Yes, you do. And that isn't going to change. These religions have dominated the world for thousands of years and you're going to have to deal with it. The best we can do is to tolerate everyone-- and stop insisting that people accept each other. It's not going to happen. |
I can guarantee that if there was a polygamy parade or polygamy story hour or polygamy lifestyle studies at school, then there would be a SC case about it. My question is why can't you just focus on rights and stop trying to expand your community. And that's the answer to your question. It's because you are proselytizing. |
Because a) they believe being LBGTQ is a choice on some level b) they’re afraid of their kids being LGBTQ and so they want all references removed out of fear their child will be “convinced.” |
Who is proselytizing though? I just don’t see it. I am your standard white woman married to a man. I have never in my life felt like someone was pressuring me to be gay. That’s just ridiculous. And what do you mean by trying to expand my community? I don’t understand. |
The problem is - the door is open according to Clarence Thomas, to roll back gay marriage. |
Money changes everything. |
Go read the scotus ruling. The images from the books in question are posted in the majority opinion. It’s absolutely proselytizing. |
People have a right to shape the moral thinking of their children. |
And it’s their right to believe that. So leave other parents alone. Raise your kids the way you want but you don’t get to force your beliefs on other people’s kids at taxpayer funded schools without an opt out. |
Maybe, because it is not many and is confusing for young children. |
How many schools have actually been working this stuff into their K-5 curriculum? I have yet to see my kids who are moving into middle school vent home anything focused on or “promoting” LGBTQ culture. |
Teacher here. Is this really a common problem? Teachers reading LGBTQ books to small children? Here’s my experience. I ised to work in a VERY liberal school district. Our library had LGBTQ books available for students to check out. Sometimes the counselor would guide specific students to those books as they saw necessary. I never read one out loud, and I don’t know if any of my co-workers did either. Simply because our reading material has to apply to our content.
Now I work in a fairly conservative district. Our counselor is conservative and likely does not discuss these topics or guides kids to reading material. I honestly don’t know if our library has the books. It just hasn’t come up. We did have a guest speaker one time, at my current school, who uses they/them. I simply told the kids this beforehand and it was no big deal. I also let parents know simply by putting in newsletter that Jim Bob Smith (they/them) will be coming to talk to the class. No questions or pushback from parents. This issue is not overtaking schools the way people think. I’m sure I would have parents opting kids out if something LGBTQ-related did come up - fine. Whatever. I have had parents opt their kids out of state assessments, any reference to war, Halloween, the puberty talk, SpongeBob Squarepants, riding the bus to a field trip, recess when temp is below 35, their music program, and PE. It’s your kid. Whatever. |
This country was founded on freedom of religion but somehow that has become only freedom of Christian religion. If you don’t want to see a pride parade, don’t go. Is not hard. If you don’t want an abortion, fine. Don’t have one. Why does everyone else have to abide by your arbitrary religious rules? My Christian version of religion doesn’t espouse hate. Why do others get to control? |
I don't think anyone has an issue with "the intersex agenda." This entire issue is a red herring. |
It’s not a morality issue though. |
