Would you really leave America if Trump/Musk are scaring you?

If the next election were to be canceled or martial law imposed, I would leave, but with a heavy heart to watch the sunset on democracy. However, I’m not sure Europe would not follow suit if that happens.

The Holocaust didn't start with gas chambers, it was decades in the making. Many, many people (who would know) are sounding the alarm and saying the parallels are unmistakable. Listen to them.

+1. People who have experienced fascism are sounding the alarms. Please listen. https://www.nytimes.com/video/opinion/100000009923409/government-oppression-power-tyranny.html

I saw the same articles in 2016. With all due respect, it’s now been about nine years now that the far left has been declaring the US as early 1930s Germany.

No, you didn't.

We had our Bier Hall Pusch, and the criminals have been pardoned and declared heroes, and their Leader is back at it again with a plan for revenge.

If you MAGA just like, educated yourself in the slightest little bit. I’m starting to become convinced that those of who are striking out at life have no one but yourselves to blame.

This. I'm in the process of getting citizenship through my father in an EU country. But I started the process a couple of years ago to give my kids more options in the future. We should have our EU passports in the next year and would seriously consider moving there. I've also just applied for citizenship in DH's home country in Asia - just to have more options. Kids are now post-college and DH and I are could retire any time (we're in our 50s) and move.

But I have already lived in a couple of other countries and always wanted to retire outside the US, so it is not a hard choice for us.

Oh it’s only the far left raising alarms? Like Liz Chaney? Pence? Any Republican who dares to speak up is labeled a RINO. And what about Canada? The EU? Scientists? Journalists? Long term civil servants who’ve served under many administrations saying this isn’t normal? Still, no? How about when conservative AF prosecutors start resigning? At what point do you stop saying to yourself “those liberals sure are hysterical”?

We're science people in our family.

Not working for the government but this slashing of the sciences only shows that the U.S. is no longer interested in advancements in science. We're fine for now, but if my kids pursue a similar path, I can't truthfully say that their best opportunities will be here in the U.S.

At the very least they have to learn to be mobile.

I’ve lived overseas and am not keen to swap my current life for my past one. But that could change quickly and I’m getting papers ready just in case. I’d stay and fight if there was organized, credible resistance. Some go time decision points for me:

If the Supreme Court is ignored without pushback; if the military obeys illegal orders, fires on protestors or Canadians; if my med/vaccines are criminalized and I’m threatened with a “wellness farm” for “reparenting” (RFK is on record for this, look it up); if planes start crashing; if I have no credible info about food, water, air, or disease risk; or if info/media are shut down, I may leave my fellow voters to FAFO without me.

We are governed by evil clowns who have no idea what they are doing domestically or internationally. Right now their incompetence is my only earthly hope as Congress et al have been pathetic.

+1 most Americans do not qualify for another citizenship or have a high level skill that makes it easy to leave.

Where are the skilled workers going to go willingly? They have to accept a steep salary cut.

I think the OB/GYNs for one would be happy to trade a lower salary for the right to practice evidence-based medicine on a healthier maternal population without fear of being imprisoned. Plus no obscene medmal bills.

And pretty much every civilized country would be happy to have them.

I'm in a group for doctors who are working on leaving the US. The moderator mentioned today that 3000 new people have joined it since the election.

We really need more doctors in Canada. You won't make as much money, but you'll make more than enough, and you can be proud to practice here.

And you get to recommend MAiD to your marginalized poor patients, too!

People are going to be standing in bread lines and freezing to death in their homes and still yelling about pronouns.

Considering Musk wants to euthanize the elderly I wouldn't get on that high horse so fast pal.

Calm down. It wasn’t all liberals in 2016 either.

I am not saying I agree with everything Trump is doing. I strongly disagree with much of it and I voted for Harris. What I am saying the absolute hyperventilating about how the US is the equivalent of 1931 Germany has been going on for almost ten years now. Like it would now be 1941 Germany if those claims had been true when they first made them. At a certain point, people are rightly skeptical.

I know people who have never left the country in their lives making preparations to leave. They have started on a two year plan to purge and pack up their house, which is quite large. They are still hoping the mid-terms might save us, but I don’t think that’s going to happen.

Hitler became the Nazi party leader in 1921, so we're really in 1930. Hope this helps!

Oh come on. A trivial internet search of 2016 news articles with the keywords “Trump” and “Hitler” overwhelmingly proves you wrong. There were many such articles.

Here is one, just picked randomly:
