I’m a second generation American and could get grandparent citizenship in two countries with strong passports. But I love our country - I’m staying. I’m not letting the jerks win. |
You say that now, wait till there is no food in the stores and protesters are shot on sight. A lot can happen in a year. Just get the citizenship now, it takes years. |
Actually we don't have kids, so have less to lose if we stay. If I did have kids, I would try to get them out of the country asap. |
Yeah, I'm f I was a second generation American I would start working on getting out now. You may have more of an ability to do so than the rest of us. It's not like the US is going to be that different from a China or a Russia if all this continues. |
The ones with the means to leave aren't that worried and those what are worried enough lack the means to leave. |
No, I'm actually returning to the US. Despite everything, the US is still one of the best places in the world for skilled work. I hit a dead end here. Economically, Europe has been struggling.
Don't let the 'liberal' mindset fool you. Culturally, it's very xenophobic even if you speak the local language. People are racist and closed-minded here, especially towards foreigners. Integration is hard. Yes, some places are safer, but a lot of these countries have real issues too. |
Would you leave Germany in 1933 if you knew the Nazis were taking over?
Nazis and fascists are literally taking over right now. There is no more constitution. How much more do you need? |
Where are you getting this idea? Wealthy Americans voted for Kamala over Trump. People who aren't worried don't have the means to leave, so it better work out for them I guess. We're about to see a historic brain and wealth drain. |
+1 most Americans do not qualify for another citizenship or have a high level skill that makes it easy to leave. |
I’m open to the idea, though Puerto Rico would be easier, and an area broligarchs don’t care about. I could likely get a visa for Canada, but I hate the cold. |
The most benign way this all plays out is the courts actually stop this insanity and the military refuses orders to opress our own citizens or fire upon them. I think that will leads to multiple mass casualty events where people die because of lack of regulations and a gutting of the regulatory agencies.
The worst scenario is full blown fascist take over, the military does whatever trump says, we invade central America, Canada, Greenland, and the entire world declares war on the US. Neither scenario is good. |
It's very difficult to get a Canadian visa, harder than the UK even. |
Where are the skilled workers going to go willingly? They have to accept a steep salary cut. |
This. If we had the financial means to leave we would. If we were in our twenties we would leave. We are older and poorer, so will stay and fight. |
It's worth it to live in a country with socialized health care and decent public transportation. |
