Would you really leave America if Trump/Musk are scaring you?

Do you...know how that worked out for them?

No. I don't have that option but even if I did have that option, I am not willing to give up without a fight to these MAGA hoodlums.

Oh no, Puerto Rico is HUGE with techbros because of the taxes. I know SO many techbros that moved down there. And techbros are all wannabe oligarchs.

+1 most Americans do not qualify for another citizenship or have a high level skill that makes it easy to leave.

Where are the skilled workers going to go willingly? They have to accept a steep salary cut.

I think the OB/GYNs for one would be happy to trade a lower salary for the right to practice evidence-based medicine on a healthier maternal population without fear of being imprisoned. Plus no obscene medmal bills.

And pretty much every civilized country would be happy to have them.

I'm in a group for doctors who are working on leaving the US. The moderator mentioned today that 3000 new people have joined it since the election.

A friend of mine would love to join this list - where is it??

Where are most looking at going? Lots of British doctors have moved to Australia.

Just waiting for things to settle down in Israel and then we are seriously considering it.

I'm sure the Trump condos in Gaza will be for sale soon.

Well, I left in 2007 when I was 25, and for a number of years kept intending to eventually go back to the US. But that changed some time during Trump's first presidency, when I started saying I was happy where I was and would wait a little longer. I am now so disgusted and embarrassed to be an American, and I plan never to return to the US.

Having to explain on a near-daily basis to people how I feel about Trump/Musk's latest antics is humiliating.

Also, when I moved to Europe in 2007, people generally seemed to have a positive perception of the US. This has largely changed, in Europe and Asia, where I now live. I think the downward trajectory of the US is impossible to stop at this point, and the world knows it.

It's really not that big a deal, it's all in your head. It's not easy, especially as most Americans believe so many myths about European countries (good and bad),but it's much easier than most think.

Then again, if you don't have an openminded, flexible personality, or you are very family oriented, yeah, it's not for you.

For me, I'm waiting until my mother passes away and then I'll leave. Unless things turn violent here.

I lived as an expat when I was younger, and I always said I wouldn't move abroad again without a spouse. It's just too much to start over from scratch socially.

But the cost of living is a tiny fraction of DC's or even Maryland or Virginia's! 12 eggs in Europe, the free grazing, cage free kind are $2-3. Living expenses are so much less, I won't even start on healthcare. You simply don't need the same salary. Also - we buy waaaaay less crap than Americans. Oh, and there are no credit cards (all are pay by the end of the month), so people don't go into debt at the same rate.

This is looking better and better to me.

Already practicing not buying crap.

Actually many jobs that European countries are looking to fill are not necessarily high skill career jobs.

True!

Most degreed immigrants in the EU are working low-wage service sector jobs.

And they have health care, unlike us!

Funny thing. Economic crisis is global. There is currency collapse everywhere and asset price inflation and too much fiat money around. If you are concerned about economy you are unlikely to find a place sheltered from this especially as an American seeking livable places overseas where you would be comfortable, have 1st world amenities and fit in.

It still won't help because of exorbitant healthcare costs, the system designed to keep you enslaved to your full time job or go broke unless you are over 65.

Republicans plan to make those over 65 go broke as well.
