The smart tribes do revenue sharing. Most members get a few thousand a month of the proceeds. A few tribes actually get eye-popping amounts. The money makes it a lot easier to deal with the negatives of gaming. Don't think for a second that FFX would do the same. You'll only get the negatives while someone else gets the benefits. |
Walked into a casino recently. Mostly giant touchscreens now. I didnt even see the point of going for anyone. Some table games, but so weird. I can see table games dying over time. People love the big screens and dopamine hits. Food looked good though. So, many retirees losing so much money. |
Update from the Patch:
https://patch.com/virginia/herndon/s/j3tfl/tysons-casino-tramples-neighborhoods-ignores-residents-opponents?utm_source=local-update&utm_medium=email&utm_campaign=alert Reading between the lines, this casino is going to be pushed through no matter what residents want. Such a shame. |
Nope. Not going to happen. |
Then the why does this thing keep springing up? |
Unless Alexandria wants to build it in Potomac Yards, you should start seeing articles for that shortly. You want Fairfax County and Alexandria to bid against each other for the tax revenue. |
THIS. I've been amazed at how little I've seen this argument against the "But it'll have concerts!" crap being spouted regarding a Tysons casino. A casino would be just across the Beltway from an already established entertainment venue, Capital One, which seems to be doing just fine selling out a lot of shows. The idea athat we "need" a concert/show venue in Tysons is an ill-informed idea. |
The Democrats in Fairfax - between the likes of Scott Surovell, who is just a despicable person, and the crazies on the School Board - are doing everything in their power to make Fairfax purple enough to keep flipping state elections to the Republicans.
If my local Democratic reps don't go after Surovell hard then I don't care if they claim to oppose the casino legislation and location in Tysons. I'll just assume their opposition is Kabuki theatre and do everything I can to support their Republican opponents in the future. |
Classic downstate vs. NOVA move. Richmond gets the money, Fairfax County residents get shafted. |
In other words, a day that ends in "y" in PG. |
No way the tech companies in Tysons much less the residents of Great Falls and McLean are going to let this happen. |
Urge Youngkin to veto it |
Let's not forget Wolf trap, which has been around much longer than Capital One, and has winter performances at The Barns. Between this and Capital One, the area doesn't need a cheesy casino venue. |
There's also Wolf Trap less than 20 minutes away. |
There's a lot of grass roots opposition (and seemingly no grass roots support) but the casino industry and the unions are in support of it. If it's not killed at the state level then the casino industry and the unions can pour huge dollars into a pro-casino campaign targeting FFX Co. voters as it will go to a referendum in November. If you are a FFX Co. resident, please take some time and write your representatives - lots of resources here: https://nocasinocoalition.org/ The subcommittee vote is on Monday - there's a trip to Richmond if anyone wants to go: https://nocasinocoalition.org/take-action |
