Tysons Corner Casino -- Foregone Conclusion Now?

IMO that is predatory, like a payday loan center and a pawn shop right next to Section 8. It’s bad for everyone.

Gambling can cause real addictions and ruin lives and families. Just like any other drug. The one in Arubdel Mills frequently attracts parents who are so addicted to gambling they leave their kids in the car in the parking lot FOR HOURS. It’s awful. I cannot understand why anyone would want a casino anywhere.

Not in my opinion. If you build it, they will come. If you build a casino, the trash will come from wherever. You can put lipstick on a pig and call it the MGM, but it’s still a pig and a casino. Complete filth, where it’s in PG County, Fairfax, AA County or Baltimore City.

They really do want to turn Tysons into the NoVa version of PG. We have to stay in the area a few more years but otherwise can’t wait to leave the sh*thole that the Democrats are turning Fairfax into.

Marsden doesn’t even represent Tysons but he is trying to stick it with a casino. The casino developer had been busy making donations and hiring lobbyists.

How can we stop this?

Tell your state legislators you don’t want them to pass this legislation.

Considering that you can now gamble, play the lottery, and bet on sports from your phone, it's hard to use the gambling addiction excuse to block construction of a new casino.

That being said, I wish we could do away with all legal gambling and let the mob own the illegal gambling business.

A casino would be a great way to bring a lot more crime to Tysons.

Can Gov. Youbgkin place a moratorium on more casinos being built in Virginia?

No, it's not hard. You can do that all from your phone at your house. I don't want your riff raff and the crime that comes with it in person in the neighborhood.

There’s literally a million reasons.

A casino will hurt local businesses, increase gridlock and public safety problems, lower property values, and encourage risky behaviors, while forever changing the character of our community.

Casinos bring exponentially more crime.

That's far from settled fact:

"Encourage risky behaviors." Like what?
"Changing the character of our community." Who are you afraid is going to come to a casino in Tysons?

Think carefully about your answer to that last question.

Isn’t Pentagon City doing better than ever these days. A new flagship Uniqlo and a Mango opened. While the smash and grabs have targeted the high end watch stores on multiple occasions though, the escape has been via car not Metro. (Strange how despite the high presence of police and secret service at Pentagon City during the last smash and grab when Blinken was shopping, the juvenile thieves still got away with the crime. I think the loss was in the hundreds of thousands of dollars.)

Nordstrom (not specific to Pentagon City or Tysons) has lost tons of money due to their flexible return policies, not smash and grabs.

Better than ever? How long have you lived here? No, it is not.

Casinos are awful, attract crime, are predatory. There is nothing redeeming about them whatsoever. Look at what the MGM in National Harbor has become. If there isn't crime inside there, it's in the parking lot or you're being followed from the parking lot and assaulted when you get home. Look at the casino in downtown Baltimore near the Ravens Stadium off of 295. It is just disgusting.

I dunno, casinos are used to get other people to pay for things that otherwise would have to be funded through increased property or income taxes. I consider that redeeming. Also, they're a tax on stupid, which I'm generally in favor of.
