Perhaps HSPT scores play a role? Grades? Feeder schools?

Ther are legacy that got a VERY low HSPT and got in to Zaga. Don't get me started.

Gonzaga is a great school but let's not pretend it's strictly a meritocracy.

Well 35% get FA and they raised our tuition by ~$6000 in the past 4 years to offer more. So it is not lack of FA.

Plus, DC's majority-black Catholic middle schools have largely shut down. These were huge pipelines for Gonzaga for generations.

Lots of black families in the DMV interested in Catholic school are looking at SJC. It is more diverse and more dynamic community. Gonzaga gives real "country club" vibes.

Who got denied recently? Someone really has a beef to grind with the numerous derogatory posts about GZ.

We used to get made fun of for being low brow by the Big 3s and now they are calling us country club kids? lol

What I love about GZ is its SES diversity. We certainly didn’t apply for “status”. We applied for its Jesuit education/values. We are full post and certainly not rich or country club members. It’s a stretch to pay for two kids.

There are plenty. You have catholic school’s that are almost all Black like Carroll in DC.

So why isnt Gonzaga?

Are you high? Stupid? Both?

Are you? I want someone to explain the logic. If there are "almost all black" Catholic schools in DC, if 1/3 of catholics are latino- why is Gonzaga predominately white rich kids? Make it make sense.

I'll say what no one is saying. Gonzaga has a reputation that goes back decades. Many black families from the DC area are very familiar with it. I have two AA boys that were both accepted into Gonzaga--stellar grades, recs, and HSPT scores. My DS was born and raised in DC and she could not get over the GZ of her day. Both boys decided against it on their own, but the reputation was def a topic of discussion for my DS and I. I know several other AA families who feel the same. I think this also affects GZs minority enrollment.

Interesting and too bad. Given the location it should be a target for smart AA boys from NE/SE DC.

Thanks for this. I guess my question to GZ parents and administrators is, "If you know your school has a reputation for being unfriendly to Black students, despite being located in a predominantly Black city/neighborhood, is that something you think about and would like to change?"

Nobody is talking about that on this thread.

Visi has even less. I would say Visi is even whiter.

Gonzaga’s is 14% black, 8% Hispanic, 7% Asian American, 1% Native American, 1% self-identified other, 67% white.

It is right on their website.

There are a ton actually. The oldest Black church in DC is St. Augustine Catholic Church and it has quite a healthy congregation.

In this day and age if you don't have a decent black population, you don't want one. This area has the highest level of concentrated Black wealth in the country and plenty of Black families send their kids to private schools. Why are they skipping Gonzaga? Or Visi? It's not price because these two are not at the top of the tuition range.
