Really? Uncomfortable, yes. Dangerous, no.

What kind of tiger mom are you?

What???? There was one day of school last week. It is the end of the semester. Wanting the kids to have a full school day makes a person a tiger mom, whatever that is???

School should be open all day period. If you have a concern you have the option to have your child take a wellness day off.

Just relax. We haven’t had snow more than an inch for 3 years. Let kids be kids. One week of education is not going to let your kids go to Harvard.

Hi SAHM! Some of us have to contribute to society.

This whole thread is so toxic.

Indeed. The disdain some teachers have for working parents is off the charts.

How havent you figured out its not teachers posting-its parents who hate teachers posing as teachers. This has been known to happen on DCUM forever. Sorry you got fooled by a bunch of morons with nothing better to do.

Except we saw the teachers union do similar things during covid. Did teacher-hating parents infiltrate the ranks of MCEA? Did they pose as teachers at protests?

Water main breaks? That didn't happen because it's moderately cold. The ground temperature is above freezing. Water mains break throughout the year.

You really need to spend a winter in Minnesota. You're wildly out-of-touch.

Stop comparing Montgomery County to Minnesota, or other northern parts of the country. Newsflash: we ARENT Minnesota. We aren't Chicago, which is why things are different here. Imagine that! Thats like expecting us to be prepared for 125 degree summers just because Arizona is.

Use. Your. Brain.

This is what I mean. You're wildly out of touch. There's nothing to prepare for for tomorrow other than spreading a bit of salt on the sidewalks around schools. There's no winter storm. It's not dangerously windy or cold. The vast majority of roads and sidewalks have been cleared. The only thing left to do is simply to open.

But a few people here are coming up with increasingly ridiculous reasons attempting to justify why MCPS shouldn't open.

Predict a normal open on time tomorrow.

The reality is that:
-Very few kids have clothing designed for 10 degrees. Many kids dont even have winter jackets at all and just wear multiple hoodies. Blame the parents for that one.
-Diesel gels starting at 15 degrees and clogs the injectors and fuel lines. This is true even for compression engines like the diesel engines on the buses/trucks. You can warm them up with electric blocks like my relatives in the Midwest use or use portable propane flamethrower like devices, but that’s not practical for an entire bus yard.
-This is not a conspiracy of the teachers union. That’s silly. Nor do teachers hate working parents. Many of the teachers are working parents themselves or are married to typical 9-5 workers.

I’m going on time. But yes there are a number of water main breaks that caused issues. So cross your fingers for in time.

They seem to be convinced that the only people disagreeing with them are teachers, so they think this is an edgy response. Much like the obnoxious pandemic parents with their "get back to work!" nonsense they kept telling teachers. The funniest part is, most people disagreeing with them are parents. They don't have the critical thinking skills to figure this out. Bless their ignorant heart.

Temps are rising and most roads are plowed. At most it'll be a 2hr delay, no chance of a day off

But I need another day off!!! This isn't fair. I shouldn't have to put on pants and a jacket in the middle of winter.

Next time you know it you'll be expecting me to actually teach something in class. Luckily I've still got some movies to show the class.

That PP has an unholy fixation on teachers and thinks anyone hoping for a snow day or a delayed opening works for MCPS. Very odd psychological fixation.

Clearly a high school student posting.

If it’s in the single digits at 5 a.m. I predict a 2 hour delay.
