Really? Uncomfortable, yes. Dangerous, no.

What kind of tiger mom are you?

What???? There was one day of school last week. It is the end of the semester. Wanting the kids to have a full school day makes a person a tiger mom, whatever that is???

School should be open all day period. If you have a concern you have the option to have your child take a wellness day off.

Just relax. We haven’t had snow more than an inch for 3 years. Let kids be kids. One week of education is not going to let your kids go to Harvard.

I predict kids will be wearing winter jackets.

Is that a trick question? Or some kind of joke?

It was code red today because of the cold….just sayin.’

No, it was due to snow/ice. It is nonsensical, but MCPS needs 48+ hours to clear snow. 9 degree temperatures are fine. Wear a hat.

It's not MCPS. We're near Garrett Park and out streets have been plowed a couple of times but they're still a huge slushy mess. I'm sure there are still side streets that haven't been cleared.

I hope there is another delay. I'm enjoying this unexpected break.

The streets are all completely clear near Garrett Park.

Ours has been plowed a couple of times. It is STILL a slushy mess with slush in the middle of the street and snow banked around cars. Ours is a fairly well used street.

Sounds like winter. What's the problem? That definitely wouldn't stop people from making it to school.

In below normal temperatures and high winds. Hazardous weather outlook for tomorrow

You've had quite the life if that's your idea of "hazardous weather."

Sorry, you need to go back to work.

MCPS teachers don't classify the weather. LOL The National Weather Service does. You do know that, right?

"Slush" isn't a significant safety problem, particularly given that it is mostly limited to side streets and they've got another 18 hours to make it even better.

Sorry, you're going to have to go back to work tomorrow. Although it sounds like you should really be looking for a new job if you're already checked out.

99% of students live on side streets. You realize that, right?

Yes, and you can drive and walk through "slush". You realize that, right?

You really need to find a new job. How challenging was it for you to go back to school after covid?

I’m more concerned about the water main breaks and cold temperatures. There are two issues down county today closing roads and some homes without water. With more breaks and a few schools/roads impacted it becomes a domino effect. A few busses don’t start, a few roads closed, a few sick drivers and all of a sudden there are hundreds of kids out in cold they aren’t used to or dressed for for long periods of time… could get ugly.

Simply being cold is not a reason for a delay. How do kids in Minnesota or Wisconsin or Alaska go to school if it’s “too dangerous” for kids to be out when it’s below freezing? Ice is one thing. “Too cold” is another. At this point the ice on the roads should be cleared.

Kids need to be in school. And I for one will be pissed if they start adding back days to spring break. We have travel plans. And those aren’t changing

Indeed. The disdain some teachers have for working parents is off the charts.

They can’t just delay one level. They have to cycle the buses. That means elementary won’t start until 11am. No thanks.

Water main breaks? That didn't happen because it's moderately cold. The ground temperature is above freezing. Water mains break throughout the year.

You really need to spend a winter in Minnesota. You're wildly out-of-touch.

How havent you figured out its not teachers posting-its parents who hate teachers posing as teachers. This has been known to happen on DCUM forever. Sorry you got fooled by a bunch of morons with nothing better to do.

Stop comparing Montgomery County to Minnesota, or other northern parts of the country. Newsflash: we ARENT Minnesota. We aren't Chicago, which is why things are different here. Imagine that! Thats like expecting us to be prepared for 125 degree summers just because Arizona is.

Use. Your. Brain.

This is correct. Therefore, the original statement should have read, "The disdain some working parents have for teachers is off the charts."

As always, any thread that's in any way related to attendance, delayed openings, closures, etc. quickly goes off topic and becomes hateful (and then the discussion is locked).

They live with it all winter, so they're prepared. When I lived in the midwest it took five minutes just to get myself out the door -- no kids -- because dressing for the weather is a big deal there. Obviously most kids around here are not prepared for this kind of weather and don't have the attire for it.
