Water main breaks? That didn't happen because it's moderately cold. The ground temperature is above freezing. Water mains break throughout the year.

You really need to spend a winter in Minnesota. You're wildly out-of-touch.

Stop comparing Montgomery County to Minnesota, or other northern parts of the country. Newsflash: we ARENT Minnesota. We aren't Chicago, which is why things are different here. Imagine that! Thats like expecting us to be prepared for 125 degree summers just because Arizona is.

Use. Your. Brain.

This is what I mean. You're wildly out of touch. There's nothing to prepare for for tomorrow other than spreading a bit of salt on the sidewalks around schools. There's no winter storm. It's not dangerously windy or cold. The vast majority of roads and sidewalks have been cleared. The only thing left to do is simply to open.

But a few people here are coming up with increasingly ridiculous reasons attempting to justify why MCPS shouldn't open.

The county MCPS website wording was posted verbatim here multiple times. You choose to see no hazard that’s on you.

Don't forget to set your alarm for tomorrow!
Time to go back to work.

What are you even talking about?

That PP has an unholy fixation on teachers and thinks anyone hoping for a snow day or a delayed opening works for MCPS. Very odd psychological fixation.

Pretty safe bet. Closures and delays only help teachers.

I’m a parent who really appreciates those 2 extra hours in the morning. I love the chance for a slow breakfast. I love the calmer prep for school and work.

So you’re wrong. It isn’t just teachers.

SAHPs don't really count.

Did you see where I added “and work” in my post? I’m not a SAHM.

I’m sorry that messes up your theory about teachers. I know many on this site just love to pick on them.

If bringing your kids to school at 11:30 is a no-big-deal, slow-breakfast morning, then you clearly don't have a real job.

Interesting theory. Still, doesn’t change the original point: stop picking on teachers. It’s old and overdone on this site.

I think MCPS reads this forum. Just sent an email to double down — tomorrow is code green. Everyone back to school. Let’s go.

In case you weren’t aware it’s code green.

I bet you don’t have high schoolers.
I don’t want my kid out there at 6.30 am waiting for the school bus to come in the dark and freezing cold

Ok, then give them a ride.

What do you do when it is pouring rain?

I’m a nurse and have to leave at 5 am for work. I don’t have a cushy remote job like so many of you. And no, my dh cannot step up because he is visiting an elderly parent who needs help in another state.

WAAAAHHH, PP has to go to a job that SHE chose, at 5 am, and complains she doesn't have a cushy remote job. WAAAAAAHHHH. Those lazy nurses just LOVE to complain.

Your **high schoolers** aren't able to dress appropriately for winter weather? That doesn't exactly speak well for your parenting skills.

You understand that it's not about your kids who have to be at the stop at 6 am or your 5 am job. If buses can't start their diesel engines, schools can't start. They have to evaluate the conditions in the morning and decide what to do.

Why is this thread still going? MCPS already decided- nothing to discuss.

Don't worry-- it's not that cold. The buses will be fine. Keep your alarm set-- it's a school night!

There are a few teachers desperately hoping for another day off. Or going through the stages of grief that they're going to have to return to work.

A question generally; not just for MoCo:

I thought the deciding factor for closings are for the walkers who don't get the bus from the county?
