Predictions for tomorrow?

Don't think there is a thread on this yet. Any chance there might be a delayed opening?

For Sunday??

If they cancelled activities today, will they be able to de-ice school grounds on a Sunday? Do they work on Sunday? If they don't, yes a delayed opening or it'll be "persistent issues with removal of ice" therefore schools closed Monday and offices 2hr delay.

Monday of course. Yesterday felt like Saturday šŸ˜‚

Open on time for Monday. The elementary school near my house was completely plowed and treated on Friday, so if there were Sunday activities there, they could go ahead.

Of course, I don't know about other schools in the county, and am aware that middle and high schools have more to plow.

I didn't look at our elementary school yesterday, but considered that they hadn't bothered to plow/shovel before school on Thursday, I kind of doubt it.

Should be code green on Monday. Tomorrow should be normal too. They have all of today to clean up.

On time. Lots of time to plow, lots of (too much!) salt on the ground.

Are you aware that building services employees don’t work (get paid) on weekends?

I can’t believe I’m saying this, but I kind of have my doubts- just drove by the MS down the street and the lot hasn’t been touched. Considering it took two days to clear the snow/ice earlier in the week and there will be little natural melt this weekend with the cold, MCPS will actually need to be proactive to ensure a regular opening on Monday.

I rolled my eyes at the cancellation of activities today due to the ā€œcold alert.ā€ It’s not too cold for families to walk from the parking lot to an indoor activity. We all know it’s because they haven’t plowed anything yet.

Overtime

Commercial parking lots are clear. No reason for schools to shuttered.

So MCPS needs to pay them overtime to work. Not rocket science.

Not true for facilities.

Just to be clear, building services is responsible for sidewalks around schools, but not the parking lots. The plowing is contracted out to various companies. That’s partly why Wednesday was closed- some lots got cleared properly, some did not. The school is also not responsible for sidewalks in neighborhoods leading to the school, many of which were a problem Wednesday.

That said, we should be code green on Monday because there’s plenty of time to finish those tasks and the sunshine will help melt and dry off pavement.

They haven’t touched our streets which are a primary bus route. I think delay as they are way behind their usual removal process.
