Montgomery County Public Schools (MCPS)
| NO. This will be a full 5-day week of school. Periodt. |
MCPS changed their mind at the last minute last week. I don't think that the fact that they've made an announcement means that we know what will happen. I expect that they'll be open, but I don't think it's a done deal. I also don't think that wondering or discussing what will happen equates to wanting them to be delayed or closed. I'll also point out, because I feel the need to every time it comes up, that 9 - 5 office jobs are one kind of job. They aren't more "real" than jobs with other schedules. We loved delayed openings when my kids were little because it meant that the kids got to see Daddy, who worked overnights as a first responder, for a few minutes at breakfast before they went to school. |
Lol. The attempted justifications for school delays and closures continues to get longer and longer! |
Your definition of "real job" seems to be stuck in 1995. Sorry you CLEARLY hate your own job and existence and you're jealous of other people who work remotely. You're the type to be upset teachers have summers (unpaid) off too. Miserable people want others miserable too. Not gonna work no matter how many times you pathetically post on this message board. I hope you seek some help and get yourself a job you actually like without having to knock everyone else's because it doesnt fit your boomer definition of "real job." It's truly pathetic. |
Where did I justify anything in this post? I said I thought they should open, but asking whether they will open isn't the same thing as wanting them not to open. And that the PP who is accusing people of not having "real jobs" because they work a different schedule is wrong. |
Remote or not, the PP indicated that she can ignore whatever her obligations typically would typically be and instead have a leisurely breakfast. Deciding to have a 2-hour breakfast at the last minute isn't something that people with remote or in-person jobs can do. |
I suspect many can. We aren’t talking daily or even weekly. We’re talking the rare morning in the winter. As for “ignoring” obligations, family IS an obligation and one that often gets pushed aside for our jobs. To be able to spend a precious couple hours slowing down? It’s a gift. This subthread started with a poster saying only teachers like delays because they can avoid work. (Nice cut at teachers.) In any case, it seems like we have proven that wrong. |
So, then if it isn’t something you can do, plan for it. Have a back up childcare arrangement. School is not day care. |
Just curious why you hate teachers so much? You have no clue if teachers are complaining on here or not. Most or all the complaints seem to be from parents. |
That trope again. The reality is, yes, public schools provide a child care function, and they always have. The first free public schools were established to allow single mothers to work during the day. If you don't see how schools provide that function, or accept that it is a critical part of how working families get by in society, then you've lived an incredibly privileged life. |
Missing even more hours of work without much warning is a "gift"? You clearly don't have a real job. No one that has to work would describe it as a "gift." |
One word: Maxiflex |
Yes, some posters are clearly mocking teachers. But some of the serious posts, in this thread and the others, come from people at least claiming to be teachers. There's no reason to question those. If teachers don't want that group speaking for all of them, then they should speak up. Instead we're only hearing from a small group of teachers that want to both close schools frequently for expected winter conditions and also want to fight (or at least complicate) attempts to add make-up days. |

This thread is the definition of jumped the shark.
Jeff oughta shut this one down. |
You've got an exceptionally flexible job then. Particularly since most people on maxiflex have previously scheduled obligations in the morning. |
