What’s with the condescending tone, ‘roots’? Never said anyone had described this as a random event, merely making an observation. |
I work in a synagogue and this is what we are taught. Fight is last resort. The rabbi held hostage in Texas fought. Waited until terrorist got tired and threw a chair at him. That counts as fighting. |
| Don’t fight this is ridiculous |
Absolutely. Your life is worth fighting for, so fight. Don't stand there or cower and get mowed down. Stand up and fight. You better believe that I will fight if someone is trying to kill me. I am a UVA alum and I am completely devastated by this tragedy. I am so heartbroken for the deceased and injured players, and their family and friends. They are all in my thoughts and prayers right now. |
| Current linebacker D’Sean Perry has been confirmed dead by his father (reported by Richmond times). My heart breaks for these families. |
It is ridiculous and people are beyond sick if it. We can say what we want to try to protect our kids that are in school. We don't need to live with all these guns everywhere and treated as the solution to everything if we organize and tell the NRA to get lost. |
Link it |
DP, I already linked several posts above. |
People who boo are nasty and trashy. I feel so bad for the players who are out there trying their best, only to be booed by their own "fans." |
no as she heard it, it was a small group. |
This young man has been killed. |
| Shooter was on roster in 2018. So no longer a student there? |
Email from UVA president confirmed the shooter is a current student. |

I hope this post doesn't get lost amid all the nasty carping going on here. Someone noted this video earlier in the thread but I wanted to post the link again. The Washington Post linked to this as well. This is a short video demonstrating the "Run, Hide, Fight" process for surviving a mass shooting. It is a very well-produced, pragmatic video, and yes, it's hard to watch, even knowing that you are only seeing actors. But it is spot on, and tracks perfectly with other active shooter training I have had and articles I've read. Please -- watch it, have your teens and college age kids watch it, talk about it, and have your spouses watch as well. You might think you know what to do, but seeing it in For those farther above in the thread saying fighting wasn't a thing -- yes, it is, if it has to be. This video doesn't go all the way in showing people actually fighting but the steps it depicts (like finding weapons in the room where you are, such as fire extinguishers, chairs, etc.) are, again, spot on for what experts say to do. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=5VcSwejU2D0 |
WTAF is wrong with you? You should be ashamed, even if there wasn't this shooting involving students and players. These college kids OWE YOU NOTHING. I am a HUGE fan of my alma mater (another ACC school, one your school loves to hate, but we just beat you recently in football and we are gearing up to do it again in basketball). I have had my share of heartaches and frustrations with my team but I would NEVER bad mouth them, in person or otherwise. EVER. These are students. You think they don't have enough pressure with some jerk screaming at them because they're only human and are having a bad game. You are disgusting. |
