I think the person who originally asked about Norwood versus Green Acres was looking for what the K numbers (i.e., number of spots still available) looks like. I think the person who responded "I heard they are better than Norwood" was referring to the number of spots, not comparing Norwood and Green Acres. |
|
maybe but green acres is not processing any applications as of two or three weeks ago.
|
| I hope Norwood does not fill for K. I am concerned about class size there. I may jump ship if it looks like they fill. |
| That's my concern with Norwood, 16 should be the max per class. |
| Are they pushing it up to get more money? |
| I was told they would have no more than 16 kids in each of the 3 classes, that's the MAJOR thing that appealed to us. |
When, and from whom did you hear that? I was just ( 2 wks ago) told by admissions that it would be 18. |
| On the tour I went on at Norwood, I was told 18-19 per K class with two teachers. |
| Ditto for us on jumping ship, omg I never heard 19 per class..... |
| Norwood seems to drop class size in the later grades...the complete opposite of what Best Practices recommends. The smallest classes should be in k-2. |
|
For those saying you would jump ship ... where exactly would you go? Is you local neighborhood school's class size for K better?
Do you have deposits sitting elsewhere? Are you making idle threats hoping someone at Norwood will read it on this post? If yes, do you really want to pay a lot of money to a school that will respond to threats and rants on this anonymous board? |
| Not threats for the school to read. The class size of 18-19 is just 2 kids smaller than the public school. They might even be down to 16 kids at our PS. I would be a bit upset if I was paying so much money for two fewer kids in class. Plus, all the enrichment activities at Norwood can be matched with with LOTS of lessons for my son, art, music, cooking, karate. Spanish, there's Jabberu, and Rosetta Stone. And a nanny or au pair to give me a break...get it? My DH is not convinced that we should be spending that kind of money. |
| Which local public school has 21 students per class and two teachers? I would like to know more about this school...my local Montgomery County School has 30 students in each K class with one teacher. |
| I get it. I don't mean this in a bad/nasty way - sounds like you are looking for a reason to get out. |
That tends to happen in the more affluent areas. But the cutoff is supposed to be 26. They try to keep it at 21, but the schools that get more attention are in higher risk areas. So don't expect them to be cutting class size at Burning Tree of Carderock. |
