Schools accepting late apps

I saw a website last week that told me what independent schools had current openings for the fall/spring. Does anyone have that website address?

Called the new classical school in Old Town (Alexandria Academy) last week, and they said they are on rolling admissions and will be accepting applications through summer. FYI had a heck of a time finding this school on the web but finally did at www.alexandria-academy.org. We're applying there for my rising 6th grader.

Alexandria Academy (new): 5-8

St. Anselm's Abbey School also does rolling admissions and will accept applications for all grades (6-11). In full disclosure, 9th is pretty full so unlikely but possible for a good candidate and 10th and 11th are unusual entry years, but again possible for a really strong student. www.saintanselms.org.

Got an email from Green Acres today saying they are accepting applications (although they did not specify which grade)

Don't know where you live, but most Anne Arundel County privates are still accepting applications for most grades. Key School, St. Anne's Day, Indian Creek, Annapolis Area Christian.

I just received a notice that Lowell is still accepting applications for certain grades. I don't know which ones. You'd have to call.

There are a number of schools who consider apps that come in after February 1st for considering after acceptance letters have come out and families have committed. Most don't advertise this but it is available. I'd call some schools whether they state it or not and find out what your chances are.

At our previous school, Admissions was always active even during the summer. Almost every year, we would receive notice of a new family coming in well after classes had been set.

I will also mention that we've seen families come in and then leave after a day or two at the beginning of the year. Not as uncommon as you think. More chances at slots that open up late in the game.

PP that received a notice from Lowell, in what from did you recieve the notice (email, call, etc). I didn't recieve any notice and my DC is on the waitlist for K. I will call tomorrow to see if they plan on going to the waitlist.

If you are in Virginia, I get the sense that you could still apply to many of the schools in Alexandria - earlier grades may be filled, but Burgundy, Browne, ACDS and possibly St. Stephens may have room in many of the grades - especially for a really qualified kid.

Also, just like the luck of the draw everywhere, grade level and gender balance make a difference in the Alexandria schools. But well worth checking, just in case.

Probably not for SSSAS and while I don't know anything about ACDS, it has been known that Browne and Burgundy are good chances if your child needs MS openings or JK. Maybe other grades, too, depending upon the turnover.

I would have all apps, testing, etc. done well in advance of June 1 when more slots are likely to open up.

McLean School of Maryland (Potomac) is still accepting applications for kindergarten and most grades - they have a rolling admission throughout the year. Here is the website www.mcleanschool.org. Or give the Admission Office a call: 240.395.0698.
