| If you want an answer - why don't you call Norwood Admissions and ask........ |
| I called too and never heard back? |
|
I too heard they only have 1 spot.
|
| 16:25 - Who are you talking to/what number are you calling? I spoke with someone in the admission office this morning who said they have "a handful" of spaces left for K. Try calling 301.841.2130. That's the line I used. |
Are you getting your info. from that number? |
| What does a "handful" mean, why can't these AD's be direct, is it 3, 5, 1? |
|
A "handful" probably means more than 1. I hate to be cynical here but there are two dynamics with the same goal going on here. The AD can't give you an exact number because the number technically can always be in flux. She tell you 3 and then a second later the phone rings and a family informs her they have changed their mind.
The person(s) who keep saying there is only one spot or no spots may want everyone to believe that the school is more selective than it may appear because there is a "handful" of spots left. I am not saying that Norwood is not selective, I am saying that some parents might be very upset at the thought that their new school is not fully enrolled like the others you read about here. Everyone hates how hard it is to get a spot, but once you do you want to take some pleasure in believing that there were other children who weren't as qualified as yours for whatever reason. Once you hear that your school has a handful of openings you start to doubt the school, why did so many parents say no? am I missing something? etc etc. What better place than on an anonymous forum to promote your (new) school or fueld the belief that it is a coveted and very selective place. No I did not post anything about Norwood and how many spots they have. Didn't even apply to Norwood. |
I was one of these people--I was simply misinformed by someone I thought was a good source. |
| I disagree. I spoke with another school's AD and they were very upfront and honest and said as of today they have 2 spots, but that could change by the day. Maybe Norwood wants people to think they have more spots than they actually do because then more people will apply and they'll get more app fees. It is not fair to familes to get our hopes up and think they have more spots than do, just tell it like it is, we know things change. Perhaps you should apply elsewhere. |
| Which school has two spots and for what grade? |
| I know Green Acres has spots open for K and Beauvoir for 1st. |
| I second a PP - Grace Episcopal Day School in Silver Spring and Kensington has some spots. Not sure which grades, but they are having an open house this Friday. Also - you could try calling the admissions office for details. 301-585-3513. |
And we did not get into Green Acres! But probably for the best. |
| Someone mentioned that half of the entire K classes at Norwood are taken by siblings, (approx 25) is this true? |
|
Lowell has (as of last Friday) Pre-primary spots (this program begins at age 3 and is not necessarily Pre-K depending on what group has openings) and spots in grades other than K. No K spots available. Also, they have added a Junior Kindergarten (JK) this year. Don't know if that is one of the grades with spots, but it may be because it is a new class.
Definitely call them if interested! |
