Schools accepting late apps

Seems like 13:21 and 17:37 disagree. Anyone know for sure about K spots at Norwood?

I don't think Norwood has K spaces, but why don't you call them? Their Web site says: "If you would like to submit a late application, please call the admission office (301-841-2130). Late applications will be considered on a case-by-case basis."

I know for sure that Norwood has limited spots in K and is still accepting applications. I spoke to the AD and she said they had the fewest number of siblings ever this year apply for K and therefore had many spaces to fill. You go through the same application process as you would have if it was regular time - submitting your application does not mean that you will be accepted. Norwood starts in Kindgarten and brings in most of its students at that time between 48-54 students. They don't have a pre-k.

Ouch. That's got to hurt if you're already on the wait list.

How many spots do they have and how many are on the wait list?

The British School just moved from Dupont to a large new campus in Georgetown and is doubling the size of its younger classes. I'm pretty sure admissions will be very competitive again by next year. I think it's an impressive school.

I was told by the AD at Norwood as well as a friend who teaches there that they have no spots for K.

Do you know how many kids they have enrolled in K for the coming fall or how many they have on the wait list?

Had the same question on Norwood, anyone know?

Since so many postings have occurred in this thread about openings at Norwood, I feel that I should non-anonymously set the record straight.

My name is Mimi Mulligan, and I am the director of admission at Norwood. For the 2008-2009 school year, Norwood has limited spots available for K. If you are interested in applying, you should go to our website, www.norwoodschool.org, click on the admission tab, followed by the “Apply Now” tab. Since we are working on a condensed timeline for the application process, parents should immediately work to gather all required supporting documents (WPPSI testing, teacher recommendations, etc.). Parents will need to come to Norwood for a 30-45 minute interview, and the child will need to come for a quick in-house evaluation at the same time.

We have a tour of the lower school next Wednesday, April 30 from 9-10 followed by a Q&A with the director of admission and the lower school principal for about 30-45 minutes. There is another tour on Wednesday, May 14 same times. We ask that you call our office to reserve a spot on either one of these tours.

To answer the valid concerns of previous posters about jumping over our waitlist for K, we have exhausted that group, so there are no toes being stepped on, nor any unfair practices in place.

For parents looking at other grades, we are happy to accept applications to be on our waitlists for those grades. That means you should go ahead and apply online and then we will be in touch if we go to the waitlists for those other grades.

We love getting phone calls and questions about Norwood in our office. Please feel free to call us at 301-841-2130 or email admission@norwoodschool.org if you have any questions about the process or about admission for next year and beyond.

Does any one know how many spaces Norwood has available for K, I heard 1 spot?

Wouldn't hold my breath for an answer--this question has been asked five times without success.
