What name did you want but got vetoed by your partner?

Leo. So I named the dog that name instead.

Helen - I always loved the name, was a hard no for DH

James, Matthew, Christopher - all vetoed. Mary, Heather, Catherine - nope! There were others I don’t remember. Finally we found two names for which there was no association other than literary.

Mine also vetoed Christopher! What’s wrong with that name? I don’t get it.

DH vetoed August. Just as well, as it's more trendy than I realized.

I loved Malcolm. We're a white family. Several white people told us it's a black person's name, like Malcolm X. It's the only name I sometimes think back on and wish we'd used. My husband was put off by the seemingly shocked responses.

I'm white and Jewish and grew up with a white, Jewish boy named Malcolm. He was SO cool.

I'm from a family of Midwestern rednecks and the family was full of boys named for their fathers, and they were all Little/Big pairs. Big Don and Little Don. Big Jim and Little Jim. Big Lenny and Little Lenny. Big John and Little John. Big David and Little David.

"Big Ben" is hilarious.

He flat out vetoed Maeve, which I'm still sore over.

My veto was Nicolette
