What name did you want but got vetoed by your partner?

DH vetoed Thea, Edwin called Ned, Bronwyn, Graham, Garett, and Briony. British so the names aren’t that weird.

Fiona. Said it was the name of a ogre.

DH vetoed August. Just as well, as it's more trendy than I realized.

I loved Malcolm. We're a white family. Several white people told us it's a black person's name, like Malcolm X. It's the only name I sometimes think back on and wish we'd used. My husband was put off by the seemingly shocked responses.

My cousin used Malcolm. Her kids are mixed race (black dad, white mom).

But I know several white Malcolms too, so I would not say it'd definitive. Like Malcolm Gladwell or the tv show Malcolm in the middle.

Malcolm Gladwell is biracial.

Malcolm famously was the son of King Duncan from Macbeth. Genealogy websites tell me I'm a direct descendent of Malcolm.

Other than Graham, which I love, those are all kind of awful. And I generally love British names.

Robert for a middle name. It's DH's middle name and the name he goes by because he's a junior. In my family, the boys always have the dad's name as a middle name. But, DH hates being a junior and wanted DS to have a name that is completely his own.

Molly but DH vetoed because it was his paternal grandmother’’s name and my MIL didn’t like her.

Francesca, bc his grandmother was Frankie

Michael. It’s always been my favorite boy’s name but DH was terrorized by a Michael in grade school and outright vetoed it.

Serena - DH hated it
Arya - this was pre-GoT - I thought it was too close to Aryan which is a legit name, but the stigma

Bowen. It was my father and grandfather’s name. DH said no. He never knew either my father or grandsons thought it would be shortened to Bow which sounded redneck. I’m still a little sad about losing that one.
