What name did you want but got vetoed by your partner?

Two of my girls names are on someone’s vetoed list: Melanie and Daisy! Anyone’s partner veto Blythe? That would give us three for three!

Silas. I love the name and DH vetoed.

Micah. DH who is Jewish (I’m Catholic) said it was “too Jewish” and sounds like a girl’s name.

10 years later, he confessed that he was wrong and we should have gone with the name (I had a NN for it that totally fits our son).

Smart move by him.

DH wanted the Gaelic spelling of our son’s name which would have been Tadhg. Veto. It’s Tige.

Op, I think about the name Laura a lot because I was obsessed with the name Laurie as a child and also because my name is Nora which was outrageously confusing for people to grasp.

Everyone always thought my name was Laura and I always had to correct people multiple times. I wished I could just say "yes I'm Laura.")

But, one weird thing about Laura: some people pronounce it LAH-ruh or LARR-uh. (instead of rhyming with Nora). My coworker always corrects people who call her "Lora." It's LARR-uh. And for some reason this has turned me off the name completely.

I vetoed Elton. It makes me laugh to think my husband was serious about that one.

DH vetoed August. Just as well, as it's more trendy than I realized.

I loved Malcolm. We're a white family. Several white people told us it's a black person's name, like Malcolm X. It's the only name I sometimes think back on and wish we'd used. My husband was put off by the seemingly shocked responses.

Dh loved Olivia. He thought it was such a unique name and he’d never heard it before. He sees the error of his ways now

DH was the same with Sophia. Luckily we talked him out of it.

Husband wanted Isabella. Um, no

If we were having a boy Jack (he made vulgar association)

Claire because we grew up in the 80s and hence the movie line "Claire is a fat girl's name."

Eleanor is "too old fashioned."

That is why my DH vetoed Claire, too.

I love the name Daisy. DH insisted it’s a “stripper name.”

For our middle daughter, a family name normally used for boys (Phillips) with a nickname of Pippa (this was pre Kate Middleton). My husband pointed out that we don't live in England and vetoed it. In retrospect, I'm glad he did, although I still wish we could have used the name. We went with a different family name for our son.

Georgina/Georgia, hard no despite my asking consistently through two girl pregnancies. And I had miserable pregnancies and he was inclined to give me what I wanted generally.

Brendan. Seems benign to me!
