I blame Blake’s terrible AD. Coach and players are a reflection of his poor leadership.

They all were bad. Churchill player threw the first punch. Blake side fought back. Parents who got involved - unreal. Player injured on the ground at the end of one clip. Everyone lost their freaking minds and no one could reign it in.

Were there any fights when spectators weren’t allowed? I don’t think so.

Restorative Justice - BS. Physical assaults deserve real punishment. In my day, being an athlete was a privilege that you earned. There’s no room in athletics for that type of behavior and to not take swift and harsh action sends a message to both school communities that fighting is tolerated. It was tolerated for football games and now it’s tolerated for basketball.

And no, the Churchill administrators should not be patting themselves on the back for a job well done.

Not true. Not shown on video was Churchill player pushing Blake player from behind and knocking him down which resulted in Blake player shoving Churchill player.

Pushing is part of basketball punching is not. Blake there the 1st punch.

Some of these things are quasi-normal parts of the game. Definitely fouls, but not outside the scope of what often happens. The question is what you consider the tipping point to unusually bad behavior, which I would consider to be the first punch and not the first shove.

This the correct. The first shove probably happened seconds into the game.

The shoving is irrelevant. The fight started when the first punch was thrown

from aerial view it's apparent video starts right after Blake player (black jersey) has been knocked down (could have been hard screen, could have been push, could have tripped over his own feet - who knows - though unlikely any punches had been thrown yet). Blake player gets up and body pushes Churchill player out of bounds with shoulder (w/arms and hands down) - aggressive and certainly non-basketball related but not yet egregious. Churchill player then chases Blake player down court and sucker punches in head as first punch.

Trailing ref had view right in front of him and probably should have whistled dead at any point prior (other ref pre-occupied with ball handler). Particularly if game had been ugly already.

Exactly. This is not a MoCo issue or kids these days issue. Fights have happened in high school since the beginning of high school sports. It happened, it got broken up, no one seriously hurt, adults (other than Blake coach) did a good job breaking it up, players have been suspended. Stop the pearl clutching and move on.

If you go to the 1st second of the clip a white boy in black on on the ground, he gets up and bunches the black kid in white which knocks him out of bounds.

The black kid in white comes in from the out of bounds goes down the court and punches the white kid in black.

Video does show the entire incident.

Churchill (white jersey) blindsided Blake player and knocked him to the ground. Blake player gets up and shoves Churchill player out of bounds. Churchill player runs down court and throws first punch.

Pushing happens in basketball .. punching doesn’t.

Blake threw 1st punch.

I personally don’t care about either school.

The airel view looks like Churchill threw the first punch.

There was def shoving beforehand, and the refs need a tighter whistle in these types of games, but looks like the white team escalated

The refs did nothing to try and stop the fight. In our experience with MoCo athletics, the refs contributed to many poor decisions that would escalate tensions during games.no excuse for throwing any punches.

Refs don't stop fights, especially melees. That's up to game management and security. The most you can hope for is that the refs call a tight enough game that it doesn't get too chippy leading to this sort of thing.

Who the hell wants to ref these days, anyway? Even with decent game management and security on site, the parents are simply atrocious.

And where was security??? And where were school administrators??? Was there police on site???

Security and school administrators are some of people breaking up fight. Security gets paid over time for working sporting events. Basketball games typically don't have big crowds especially with non-rivals like Blake/Churchill. Probably only 1 or 2 security guards there. Police are required for every football game. They used to be required for every basketball game. That was cancelled about five years ago. Jack Smith didn't think it was necessary and cut the funding.

Have players been suspended? For anyone suspended, were they kicked off the team? Any consequences for the Blake Assistant Coach?

You don’t have to name names but sending out that XYZ is the consequences of fighting would help prevent a reoccurrence at future games.
