Yes, the poster above who mentioned a slap on the wrist is a signal to all other student athletes that fighting is okay.

The student who assaulted the other player should have been kicked off the team and suspended from school and charged brought.

They should have made an example of him.
In the end , they did. That example is "the culture you grew up with is dead. Anything goes now."

I find it interesting that MCPS hides behind “confidentiality” when everyone can see the lack of consequences when the coach and students return for practices and games. Again - MCPS used to be loud and clear that fights in games were not acceptable. Guess what that did - kids played basketball and didn’t fight.

MCPS is teaching students a lesson and it’s not one that will get them fat in life. Students need boundaries and they need to learn to keep their emotions in check even when they get upset. That’s supposed to be one of the life lessons athletics teach you.

Discrimination and inequalities hide in the shadows. The Code of Conduct has a range of punishments. Why do some offenders get the minimum and some get the max?

Would that be a ménage à trois?

Cram told MyMCM that he did not have any information regarding any discipline for the schools’ coaches.

Point 1 - So tired of hiding behind "confidentiality". Players were in full public gym and on video punching other players. You don't need to publish their names but you do have a responsibility to at least say "players found to have violated their Player Code of Conduct" have been suspended from 2 games (or whatever). That way OTHER players understand there are implications. Otherwise they probably surmise that nothing much happened.

And coaches (i.e. "adults") in public position such as Coach or Administrator or Teacher should not be afforded same confidentiality. They are an example to the school community and if they were involved in a melee (not trying to break it up but actively going after other kids), they should be accountable.

Point 2 - 2 games is laughable. That's half (1/2) a week on HS schedule. Guess MCPS has no problem with brawls.

I'm counting on seeing much more of them after the leniency mcps showed these basketball players

Exactly. This is not a MoCo issue or kids these days issue. Fights have happened in high school since the beginning of high school sports. It happened, it got broken up, no one seriously hurt, adults (other than Blake coach) did a good job breaking it up, players have been suspended. Stop the pearl clutching and move on.

I attended 4 years of bball games in HS. Never saw anything like this. No punches. No benches, and no adults leaving the stands. Awful.

+100000 - This is why people no longer trust MCPS. It’s one thing to preach equality and another to hide behind closed doors so punishments cannot be compared. Equal crimes should do equal time.

And I agree, a two game suspension is laughable. No way is that near enough. I am sure if a kid sucker punched another kid in the hallway of school, he would get more than a two game suspension. The N word card got 3 whole day suspension.

Kids in school have seen the video. They know who was fighting.

It’s not surprising that when the players who were fighting are in class and attending practices, enforcement was a farce. Everyone knows that it was only a two game suspension.

Fighting will not only continue in MCPS athletics, but there will be increased violence in schools because hugs and apologies isn’t going to stop bad behavior.
