Can MCPS retire the RAISE Core Values bs? Seriously it is old and no one even knows what it stands for.
As far as what the core values of the MCPS athletics program - actions speak louder than words. What does the video tell you the core values are? |
| More W school problems... |
Yeah, W schools are the worst. Except all the rest that are just as bad. |
|
RAISE stands for: Respect and Sportsmanship, Academic Excellence, Integrity and Honesty, Spirited Safe Competition, and Equity and Access
Silliest acronym ever. I was coaching when they introduced it and half of our annual coaches meeting was about learning this & making sure we posted on social media with the hashtag when our players did something good. |
Actions speak louder than words - or in this case, a tired, old acronym. Respect and sportsmanship - with the violence and racial slurs at fall sports and now a full brawl at a basketball game, MCPS athletics is doing nothing to teach players these principals. Leadership should start with Dr. McKnight on this. What does she think of the video? Is she asking for explanation from both schools? Dr. Sullivan has done nothing to raise standards for athletes during his tenure. Athletics should be brought under MCPS. You could do away with Dr. Sullivan and his staff. |
Why athletic incidents are treated differently than school incidents is beyond me. If a fight broke out in the Churchill cafeteria involving dozens of students, not one student would be suspended? |
Are you sure? |
Do we know that no students were suspended? Also, all I read about in these threads is that there are no consequences even in cadre terms fights and kids are told to just talk it out. Is that not true? |
Read the email - apologies and restorative practices. Doesn’t sound like suspensions or kicked off the basketball team. MCPS including Churchill and Blake are going down the toilet with no consequences for violence. |
So, did the bad schools improve or did the W schools decline to be equally bad. |
From aerial view: video starts with Blake player (black jersey) on ground. Gets up and pushes Churchill player (white jersey) out of bounds. Churchill player chases Blake player down court and cold cocks him in side of head. Players tumble into stands. Then you can see a parent (I'm assuming Churchill parent based on what happens next) comes barreling down the stands (you can see him sitting in top row on left hand side - he jumps up and runs down steps onto court - has red mask and jacket on). At same time, what appears to be Blake coach runs across court and gets in melee. Churchill parent ends up pulling Blake coach out of the melee and as they approach center court tangled up together, Blake player (orange shoes) out of nowhere sucker punches Churchill parent who falls at center court as crowd goes "whoaaa!!".... Pretty nice high school game environment MCPS has these days.... |
|
Wasn’t this the first game with spectators since Winter Break?
I love how the principal’s email give staff and administrators a pat on the back. Really? The video shows Churchill staff in blue running from the brawl, not stopping it or keeping anyone safe. Typical MCPS email - major sh$t show on our watch but we did a fantastic job!
|
| MCPS - they can teach a master class in propaganda. Is there any surprise that no one finds the lip service credible? |
This is Zapruder film level of analysis. Well done! |
If you watch the video, the Churchill coaching staff actually did an excellent job keeping their players and bench off the court. It was commendable. The Blake coach didn’t do anything to keep his players out of it and he himself seemed nearly ready to jump in. The way he was moving around. |
