What terrible monster is coming to eat the diverse middle class neighborhoods alive?

The bigger suspense is whether in the end Riemer will get a higher % of the vote than Leventhal? Doubt it.

I honestly just watched this and I have no clue what it was about. Hans Riemer is such an incoherent mess. Why would be actually choose to publicize this video? Is there anyone helping or advising him?

Because he got his clock cleaned on housing by not only Blair but Elrich so he’s trying to change the subject but it’s hard because the forum was about housing and he claims to be the housing guy.

Ah, I see. He’s trying to blame Elrich again for school closures when Elrich has nothing to do with it. Primary responsibility is McKnight, secondary BOE and third is the council. But he doesn’t want to point the finger at those people or himself (obviously).

Pretty skeezy dude.

Nothing more quintessentially Hans Riemer than this. It’s not a big surprise that he has no idea what he’s talking about on his signature issue. Details are for other people. He’s just, like, you know, doing the vision thing, dude.

So Elrich has no authority or influence when it comes to DHHS?

As someone pointed out in another thread, look at the Chicago mayor as an example of someone who is speaking out and advocating for schools in her city. Even though it is not within their control, I want someone who is showing leadership on this issue.

You realize that people can read org charts? Gayles (I have no idea who the current health officer is and don’t care) reported to the state not the county.

This ain’t Chicago friend. Thankfully for a number of reasons.

At the end of the day, I would say that people prefer outcomes over empty words that you seem to think equates with “leadership”. Twitter is not real life.

On almost all indicators, the county has compared favorably statewide and nationally: vaccination, deaths/1,000, hospital capacity, etc.

But I guess you would rather that Elrich is getting likes and RTs on Twitter to show “leadership” but have less vaccination and more death? E.g., Chicago.

DP but someone who has always been a bit confused about the hierarchy here. Given Hogan has been in favor of schools remaining in person, if the county health officer is actually a state employee, why would they be developing closing metrics at the county level? Shouldn’t central MDH be doing that?

A lot of the vaccine success is because we are a highly educated county. And people proactively sought out vaccines. I'm not saying Elrich hasn't helped that. But our demographics matter here.

Maybe the County Board of Health should be doing it instead? You know, basically the County Council. Maybe MCPS could instead defer to CDC guidance instead of trying develop their own metrics? Lots and lots of questions.

Sounds a bit like a heads you win, tails he loses situation. If vaccination rates were low you would certainly be criticizing him and rightly so.
