That was a hit piece that in classic urbanist fashion was filled with half truths and out of context statements.

Those folks also might have violated MD campaign finance law.

What’s interesting to me is that they seem to presume that everyone is stupid.

Oh I have no love for those thrive obsessed people like Dan Reed and Gray Kimbrough, but they are right that Elrich stinks.

How?

Maryland campaign finance law requires that a political committee be established (and registered with the Board of Elections) when two or more individuals want to promote the success or defeat of a candidate, political party, or ballot question by raising and spending money.

Fascinating. I had no idea. And thanks for taking the time to post.

Will the fire and explosions in SS negatively impact Erich? It appears that MC failed to inspect this apartment complex since 2018.

The fire chief said it was inspected in september 2021, and that the fire equipment itself was inspected in February 2022. All was fine. They found a cut gas pipe in the basement.

Having said that, if the apartment building is skimping on proper maintenance due to rent control, then that might be a political bombshell for Council at least.

Yeah I don’t like Elrich but that’s not true.

Yeah as others have noted this apartment building explosion had NOTHING to do with failed or missing inspections. If the government failed, it was a failure in licensing the idiot who cut then capped the 1 1/2" gas pipe thinking it was a clogged drain. Maybe someone will pin that on Elrich.

What is true about Elrich:
- he's a nice guy
- he takes fiscal irresponsibility to the next level
- His views on land use and planning are horrifically regressive and harmful
- You'll be loathe to find anyone who works closely with him who thinks he should be re-elected

How are his views regressive and harmful? Please explain.

He believes neighborhoods should be planned based on the preferences of the people who own homes there already, not based on the future needs or next generation of residents. Maybe that appeals to you. I actually care about my child's generation having places to live.

Neighborhood defenders in Silver Spring found a supporter in Marc Elrich, then an at-large council member who now serves as county executive and is running for re-election. In an October 2011 council discussion about Chelsea Heights, Elrich rejected the idea that the county needed to prioritize future residents’ housing needs.

“It’s all good and well to talk about everybody who’s coming here. The only problem is, we’re elected by people who actually live here,” Elrich said. “This idea that somehow, the most important thing for us to do is change the way things are to accommodate something in the future, seems a bit out of place.”

Early polls show that Elrich has expanded his base of support. According to a source who has seen multiple polls — including one conducted for a consortium of unions and another for a business group — Elrich enters the campaign with “strong favorables” and support in the “high 30s.”

According to two sources, Riemer and Blair have the support of approximately 12% of Montgomery Democrats surveyed, while the newest candidate, Hucker, is in the high single digits.

This story literally propelled me to change my voter registration to Democrat so that my vote makes a difference in Montgomery County.

Thank you.

~moderate Democrat.

Whenever anyone claims to be a moderate democrat, I always read it as closet Republican.
