Elrich Leads MoCo CE Polls by Large Margin

Anonymous
As many predicted, the entrance of Riemer and Hucker in the race has cannibalized the non-Elrich vote.

Early polls show that Elrich has expanded his base of support. According to a source who has seen multiple polls — including one conducted for a consortium of unions and another for a business group — Elrich enters the campaign with “strong favorables” and support in the “high 30s.”

According to two sources, Riemer and Blair have the support of approximately 12% of Montgomery Democrats surveyed, while the newest candidate, Hucker, is in the high single digits.

It would help to understand the poll design and scope. I'm skeptical about the union one, because Elrich is completely in bed with the unions.

And I've heard of two polls taken several months ago that showed what's being reported here. I'd love to see a much more recent poll now that Blair is actively campaigning.

Not saying Elrich won't win. It's hard to unseat an incumbent. But these polls alone are not very telling.

This story literally propelled me to change my voter registration to Democrat so that my vote makes a difference in Montgomery County.

Thank you.

Once Jawando, who’s polling at 10%, enters the primary, it’s all over. Elrich second term will be sealed.

My guess of what’s happening is that Hucker joined the race intentionally to screw over Riemer, because he certainly doesn’t have a chance of winning in his own.

Blair is hard to read. He seems like he’d be a competent alternative and outsider, but his relationship with Enpower Montgomery just makes him potentially another bit player in our local - and very corrupted - politics. His claims of being unaffiliated with Empower Montgomery ring hollow because their website listed him as a co-founder for years and now he says it’s not true? Silveman, who is one of the people behind Empower Montgomery, is legitimately bad.

Riemer is the most untrustworthy of them all and objectively the worst candidate. He’ll get in bed with anyone and anything that will further Hans Riemer. So he’s tried to endear himself with Empower Montgomery and also Trone/Franchot but he’s so obviously lacks scruples that it doesn’t seem that he really has any allies. Instead, he thinks that winking 3 at-large races running on Obama’s name is meaningful (notably he doesn’t seem to have any strong connections with Obamaworld despite supposedly having such an important role in his campaign). He’s going to join George Leventhal in figuring out how far that gets you in this county.

Elrich on the other hand, love him or hate him, developed countywide support from his at large seat because he actually represented the whole county. That’s why he was able to get more votes than Blair last time in places like Poolesville and pockets of Bethesda.

I personally would be willing to vote for Blair if he actually comes out publicly on his position on Thrive. That will tell a lot about where he sits and what he will do as executive. I do like his plans promoting increased public investment along Georgia Avenue though.

The CE race? Is he thinking of that? I would LOVE to see him do that, because he'd be booted off Council for at least 4 years.

I agree that Riemer is the worst of them— don’t forget he pushed through a tax break specifically and only for the richest man in Maryland.

I don’t trust Blair— he doesn’t seem to have any record in the public sphere or any sense why that might be a problem.

That’s really the problem with Blair isn’t it? I just fear that he would bring back the worst of the Doug Duncan years, like the sweetheart deals for Jack Abramoff.

On the other hand, it’s clear as day that Riemer would probably be even worse because the man lacks shame.

If Jawando runs he’ll have to give up his council seat?

Pretty clear that Hucker is running now to improve his name recognition for 2026. Probably also to screw over Riemer too. And I suspect he’ll find himself a landing spot in the Elrich administration if he wins. If it comes off, it’s like a win-win-win for him.

Yes, just like Hucker has to.

Even if there was, and let's say the republican candidate was amazing, they would not get voted in.
