Just read this patronizing communication that was sent home.
It is strange to get a communication from the school to explain a weather decision. That it's had to happen twice in one week is disappointing. The tone was very poor. I do hope he understands that he is sending that communication to very well educated adults and not to his children.

I am amused by these emails telling us these events are learning experiences for MCPS. As though this is everyone’s first winter.

+1
Pointless. Mcps again showing us that their texts/emails are just to blow hot air.

At least students ate or got fed

We had multiple buses arrive an hour late. Those students didn’t get breakfast.

"indicators pointed to light snow with minimal expected impact to bus routes or school buildings. That is exactly what we saw this morning. Schools and offices opened safely and smoothly as could be expected, and instruction and services continued. That’s not to say there weren’t issues - there were. We also have issues every morning. "

He ain't lying. That should be their motto: MCPS. We have issues every morning.

Yeah, let's hire someone from upstate New York who won't need to fret over this.

Except they will overestimate the ability of people to drive on ice and the resulting lawsuits will bankrupt the district.

Message absolutely downplaying everything. I heard of a teacher who had an accident on slippery roads at our school and I also experienced poor conditions on the roads as my kids don't have bus service. Many late buses it appeared too. The tone definitely was not welcomed. No apologies this time!

It was a non-apology apology, and in essence said:

"We know we messed up, you know we messed up, because we overcompensated for Tuesday's mistake and in so doing made another one today. We're not going to apologize in so many words, but we're going to try and do better next time."

Everybody move to Albany or Miami so you don't have to deal with a place that has snow but only sometimes.

My kid’s bus arrives 35 minutes late regularly on a perfectly sunny and warm fall day. 1 hr is not the worst thing in the world

1. MCPS should have kept childcare open on Tuesday.

2. MCPS should either have delayed opening today, or organized better brining around the schools for this morning's on time opening. The cars slipping around my kids' high school was quite something this morning, in the dark. A delay this morning would have meant more snow to contend with, but also more time for trucks to salt, and at the very least, it means maneuvering in daylight! Which for high schoolers driving themselves to school is NOT NEGLIGIBLE.

That you think that MCPS should delay because a small fraction of MCPS students have their own transport and opt to drive themselves to school in the snow is incredibly selfish. Your new driver shouldn’t be driving to school if you aren’t confident in their ability to navigate inclement weather. Tell them to take the school bus or walk rather than endangering others with their inexperience.

We drove her to school this morning, but I am here to tell you that most parents of high schoolers can't wait for their kids to drive, because it's a huge relief on the household. Don't put this all on the parents. The community needs to react correctly to weather events, and in previous years, such a snowfall would have triggered at least a delay.

High schools have school buses too ya know? You are too good for that I guess.

+1. No one is forcing a MoCo parent to give their child their own car. There are buses or your kid can walk if close enough that a bus isn’t provided.

My kids aren't walking as its not safe. Few sidewalks and multiple major roads, including one an MCPS student got killed on.

What was the weather when that happened?
