He ain't lying. That should be their motto: MCPS. We have issues every morning.

Message absolutely downplaying everything. I heard of a teacher who had an accident on slippery roads at our school and I also experienced poor conditions on the roads as my kids don't have bus service. Many late buses it appeared too. The tone definitely was not welcomed. No apologies this time!

Yes “you heard” of so many scary terrible things that happens to a teacher but nothing is in the news about this.

McPS has nothing to apologize for this time. Sorry that teachers didn’t get to sleep in this morning. Welcome to the world the rest of us inhabit where we don’t get a snow day when it rains.

At least students ate or got fed

We had multiple buses arrive an hour late. Those students didn’t get breakfast.

My kid’s bus arrives 35 minutes late regularly on a perfectly sunny and warm fall day. 1 hr is not the worst thing in the world [/quote

I hope in below freezing weather????
meant to say 1 hour in below freezing weather????

Two buses (that I know of, could have been more) did not make it to stops before our fairly small elementary school started. Parents waited outside in the cold and then bundled all the kids, including a couple not theres but they didn’t feel they couldn’t leave behind into cars and drove.

Made by people who don't seem to understand ice and snow. places with crazy snow even know better than to mess with icy conditions tho they have the equipment to clear quickly. They close for cold before they close for snow. But not here. MCPS: my way or the...

It is strange to get a communication from the school to explain a weather decision. That it's had to happen twice in one week is disappointing. The tone was very poor. I do hope he understands that he is sending that communication to very well educated adults and not to his children.

It was a non-apology apology, and in essence said:

"We know we messed up, you know we messed up, because we overcompensated for Tuesday's mistake and in so doing made another one today. We're not going to apologize in so many words, but we're going to try and do better next time."

That’s what he should’ve said. I would have appreciated that candor. Instead he sent this gaslighting nonsense that every day there are a couple minor hiccups and today was no different. Which is blatantly not the actual truth.

Wow. You sure sound appreciative of your children’s teachers.
And people wonder why there’s a teacher shortage….

Have a wonderful night. All the best to you.

Warmly,
A Teacher

Other kid rode bus and overhead dispatcher desperately pleading over the radio signal for drivers to be careful entering and exiting that school’s bus loop because it is steep and was untreated.

May I remind you Taylor’s literal own words from his apology this week:

“As always, we leaned heavily into one priority today: the safety of our students and all MCPS staff. The forecast called for the high probability of a wintry mix, including freezing rain, and a bit of snow—and in our area, even small amounts of ice and snow can make early-morning travel dangerous.”

Today's decision has shown that someone is not ready to make important decisions. What are families gong to do? Keep kids home each time district make an irresponsible decision? Most can't.

My kid just asked why they have educators/school administrators making this decision and not meteorologists or weather experts. This is sort of like when we had politicians and school administrators making decisions during covid instead of doctors or public health experts.

My kid at Rosa Parks MS said two buses from the school had accidents.

MCPS really blew it. They should always err on the side of caution and issue a delay. You know how many lawsuits will be filed as a result of today’s mistake?

You're going to continue to try to claim this even after being proven wrong?

Though, if you think it isn't a big deal for parents to keep kids home when schools close, why can't they keep them home on other days?

+1. Finally a snow call I agree with!

+2. It's fine guys! And yes I have been out and about for the last hour+...

You were out and about everywhere in the large county? No you were not. There were many many untreated areas, and those that were clear had icy spots, and people don't necessarily know how to drive in these conditions and are slower just as they are even when it rains. So stfu.

There weren't icy conditions. There was a small amount of snow. Did you even go outside this morning? This absolutely would have been a normal school day anywhere with real winters. Kids wouldn't have even bothered to hope for a snow day.

Anyone can file a lawsuit. Doesn’t mean anything will come of it.

So next you're going to demand that schools close for rain?

Leave earlier and drive slower. Or find a friend that isn't as anxious as you.
