she never wanted to run in the first place. She entered the race after the first person backed out.

Someone had to take over for her predecessor, who had a well earned reputation for double talk and doing what was necessary to get herself reelected, regardless of what was best for the kids.

How sad, then, that Tholen turned out to be worse than Strauss.

Strauss managed to get herself re-elected multiple times. Tholen is likely a one-term mistake.

There was another person running to replace Strauss, but she backed out and Tholen stepped in at the last minute. Tholen was originally running for a different committee.

Soil and Water? Too bad she didn’t stick to that.

2023. Two more years of her mediocrity and hypocrisy ahead.

Because we are done with Elaine. This thread may close, another may open, but we will not retire this issue until we retire her at the ballot box.

Also because the case is not closed. The plaintiffs filed a motion to reconsider based on new evidence about the prosecuting attorney who decided not to prosecute.

Any update on this motion?? Next steps??

They have a facebook group. I'm sure they must be discussing it there.

a search should turn it up, I don't know their exact name or have the link.

In Virginia, a Motion to Reconsider can only rely on facts and documents that were evidence in trial.

Since they are trying to introduce new information that was not included in the trial I suspect their motion will fail or has already failed.

^ Assume you're right. If the petition can never be heard on the merits because of a decision not to prosecute made by a Commonwealth's Attorney with an alleged conflict of interest, followed by a legal technicality governing state-law pleading requirements, it still leaves Tholen's reputation tainted through the end of her term. As they say, win the battle, lose the war.

Nicely said - and we are in this for the long term - we are out for her and will get her at the ballot box in 2023.

That was the obvious intent from the beginning (except for the ignorant who thought this had any chance of succeeding). You have sullied her reputation, or at least made a good effort at it. Whether that is enough in the long run will be seen over time.

She “sullied” her own reputation through her behavior on the School Board, followed by her acquiescence in a rigged process to dismiss the allegations of misconduct against her, which were subscribed to by over 5000 of her constituents.

If she’d been a diligent, honest Board member, or at least demanded an open and fair handling of the charges, more people might still respect her.

I don't see where she did anything wrong during the Court process. She asked for it to get tossed, it was not. The prosecutor declined to take it forward. I assume you believe there was some backdoor this and that going on. There was no chance for this to succeed. It seems people are upset they did not get a chance to try to get a pound of flesh during a trial. There was no merit to this petition for recall. I am a Republican (lifelong). I did not vote for Tholen. However, this was a futile effort, but one that did raise the profile of complaints about her. Like I said, we will see over time if it makes any difference.

It's clear she'll do fine for some of the people in her district until they find a better puppet. Until then, they'll continue to hedge their bets.
