When are Herndon Middle and Herndon High going to get a break?!??

Can we please stop having this discussion until anything officially happens???? I prefer Langley parents keep the words Herndon Middle and Herndon High out of their mouths... it’s never to do anything but bash our school so please stop discussing it.

How much time is the question, but 10-15 years seems reasonable.

In 15 years the western fairfax including Herndon will have alot more kids and Herndon High will not be able to take additonal kids from Great Falls.

Sure it will, if they build a new high school and part of Herndon moves to that school. We should stop bussing kids from Great Falls 15 miles to Langley as soon as an alternative is identified.

Sure if Herndon will have capacity. For some reason I dont think the new school will not take too many kids from Herndon.

I refer you to the first post in this thread.

No one would think about Herndon at all if some Herndon parents weren't constantly complaining about Great Falls and Langley and how much Herndon sucks because kids from GF don't go to school there .

I live in Herndon but just don't see any boundary changes. Herndon High is full of kids. Langley is under enrolled. Why would the board move Great Falls kids to Herndon High? That doesn't make any sense. Also Herndon people keeps blindly voting democratic candidates. There is no political need to cater Herndon voters.

Some people keep bringing up a new western high school. First of all I don't think it will happen soon. Second of all if it's ever built in 15 years or so, Herndon will be so over capacity by then and won't have any capacity to take Great Falls kids even if some Herndon kids are moved to the new high school. Remember the only reason to build the new high school is to alleviate the FUTURE overenrollment.

The only hope for Herndon is that the future metro stations may attract more rich people.

Herndon parent here and I completely agree. All the Dranesville candidates are from GF or McLean and have keeping the current Langley kids at Langley as their priority - even the Democratic candidate. Herndon voters will take what is given.

All the Dranesville candidates live in the Langley district, but at least Elaine Tholen could be expected to pay some attention to Herndon.

Anastasia Karloutsos and Adradvan Mobasheri would ignore Herndon completely, and look to cherry-pick the McLean neighborhoods that got reassigned to Langley.

And, what does Herndon want? The Langley folks have been crystal clear about what they want.

It seems like there are two very different groups of people who want to move kids from Great Falls to Herndon:

1. Liberal people who value equity.
2. Langley people not in Great Falls. They don't want more kids at Langley although the school is under capacity. They rather want to wait until the new school is built and Great Falls kids move to Herndon. Then Langley can take some of McLean kids.

I understand where the first group come from. But logistically it's difficult. Herndon has experienced siginificant population growth. The school is full. On the other hand, Langley is under utilized.

The world doesn't revolve around Langley. The new high school is about the western fairfax not about giving relief to Langley. Langley has capacity NOW. Just let some of McLean kids move to Langley NOW. No need to wait for a large boundary change until the new school is built. Don't use that as an excuse not to take McLean kids.

This is what I want to know.

What do the Herndon voters want their School Board rep to do?

You are in the Dranesville district too. What questions do you want the candidates to answer?

What are the concerns in Herndon?

There has been ALOT of complaining on this board about wanting to send GF to Herndon, but that looks like a non-starter considering capacity issues, so what could the school board member advocate for that would help Herndon?

Smaller class sizes?
More AP offerings?
More funding for sports and activities?
Teacher/counselor training?
Traffic issues, greater safety for children who walk to school (crossing guards, painted crosswalks, walk signals etc.)

The one or two posters always saying "make Langley take some of these FARMs kids) CAN'T speak for all of you, but that is all we see that is wanted.

If a candidate were to read this forum what do you think they would believe that Herndon parents and voters want?

I don't live in Dranesville District. Are Langley people saying they don't want McLean kids? I haven't seen or read that anywhere. From what I have read on here, the poster(s) that most want Great Falls in Herndon are mostly interested in kicking the FARMS out of Herndon.

Sorry I messed the previous post up.

I was asking what issues would Elaine Tholen be paying attention to?

I have seen no advocacy from Herndon, but McLean and Langley parents in Dranesville are crystal clear on what the main issues are in that part of the district.

Elaine Tholen's site specifically lists overcrowding at Mclean as a priority.
She specifically lists keeping all current Langley HS neighborhoods in the Langley pyramid.

Everything else besides monitoring Dranesville elementary schools for capacity issues is very general.

What does Herndon want?

Because it looks like Elaine Tholen doesn't think you need particular attention either.

to spread out the FARMs. HHS at 50% and Langley at 1.6%. Does that seem fair to you?

Well come to one of their public appearances before election day and tell them that.
