"Much hoped for" by bitter, jealous people who do not live in GF. By people who actually live in GF, not so much. I don't live in GF, but it is easy for me to see that all this "send poor kids to Langley" talk is not coming from a good place. |
Are there not FARMS kids well integrated into many other UMC high schools in the county except Langley? Western GF should attend a high school closer than a school near the Arlington County border and Langley should have some diverse neighborhoods like every other high school. |
Agree in theory. Reality is different. Where are the kids from diverse neighborhoods going to come from? There are none/almost none anywhere near Langley. It makes more sense for people from GF to go there as their boundary is contiguous with other Langley neighborhoods. Anyone can look at a map and see that. And, GF people want to stay at Langley. Doubtful that a FARMS neighborhood would wish to go that far. That is just a fact. |
Actually, not so much. They are usually on different tracks. Probably, sports is the only area in which they are fully integrated. And, if you take FARMS kids and ship them to Langley from a great distance, they are unlikely to participate in sports. |
Apart from Herndon, there are higher FARMS neighborhoods in Falls Church, Tysons, and Reston that could go to Langley. It’s hilarious to watch the Langley posters and their like-minded segregationists elsewhere in the county go to such lengths to portray the lack of SES diversity at Langley as unavoidable, when it is very much the product of social engineering - for the wealthy. |
It is hilarious to think that you assume the people in those neighborhoods want to to Langley. The only suggestion I have seen is Forest Edge. You wish to triple their commute--that they likely don't want--just to balance FARMS? Great idea. I'm not familiar enough with Tysons to know where all those FARMS kids live--cannot be too many as McLean does not have that many. (Just checked: 190. So if you took half of them, then McLean and Langley will both have almost no FARMS.) As for Falls Church, have you any idea what that commute would be? Again, you are assuming that all these people wish to go to Langley. Do they not get a voice? Why does it matter to you? Resentment? Does it directly affect your child? |
From Falls Church to Langley? Have you been on the beltway in the a.m. trying to get to American Legion bridge? Have you any idea of how long that would take? |
Unlike those expressways on Routes 7 and 193 on the 15-mile trek to Langley during rush hour? You are hysterical. |
Big difference. Suggest you listen to the traffic reports in the a.m. |
Maybe they really should close Langley if it's location is so horrible. I'm sure a developer would pay quite a bit for the land, and the kids could be dispersed to McLean, Marshall, South Lakes and Herndon, which apparently are in more convenient locations. They could use the money from the sale to pay for additions at those schools. |
Why? McLean is overenrolled. Great Falls families are okay with the commute. You want to do this just to satisfy FairfaxOne? Because you think there are too many FARMS at your school? |
So, McLean already has too many kids. You don't want Great Falls kids going to Langley, but you are perfectly fine with those near Langley going to Herndon? |
Or maybe some McLean kids should go to Langley since McLean High is overcrowded and those students live in the same town and zip code as Langley. Seems too logical for kids residing in McLean to attend a neighboring high school also in McLean. |
In 15 years the western fairfax including Herndon will have alot more kids and Herndon High will not be able to take additonal kids from Great Falls. |
Sure it will, if they build a new high school and part of Herndon moves to that school. We should stop bussing kids from Great Falls 15 miles to Langley as soon as an alternative is identified. |
