Your priorities shift once your kids are old enough that you don’t need childcare in order to work. I don’t think the majority of high school parents were thrilled with today’s decision.

I have an 8th grader and was happy they got a full day of school in today. No problem at all with bus pickup/drop off.

Hopefully they’ll still get a bus to high school. A lot of kids don’t.

And now look, it's at 47 pages. McPS stakeolders are truly one of a kind.

I hadn’t thought to do that but will send Taylor a message that I appreciated that school stayed open a full day today. My kids went to school and returned with no problems at all.

Good for you. My kids were stranded on their bus for two hours.

Shame on you for only caring about yourself.

I don't believe you.

I also don’t believe kids were stranded on their bus for 2 hours. We live in MoCo not Montana.

Our bus is an electric bus and when it chooses not to start, it doesn't come. Its a few times a month.

1. MCPS should have kept childcare open on Tuesday.

2. MCPS should either have delayed opening today, or organized better brining around the schools for this morning's on time opening. The cars slipping around my kids' high school was quite something this morning, in the dark. A delay this morning would have meant more snow to contend with, but also more time for trucks to salt, and at the very least, it means maneuvering in daylight! Which for high schoolers driving themselves to school is NOT NEGLIGIBLE.

That you think that MCPS should delay because a small fraction of MCPS students have their own transport and opt to drive themselves to school in the snow is incredibly selfish. Your new driver shouldn’t be driving to school if you aren’t confident in their ability to navigate inclement weather. Tell them to take the school bus or walk rather than endangering others with their inexperience.

We drove her to school this morning, but I am here to tell you that most parents of high schoolers can't wait for their kids to drive, because it's a huge relief on the household. Don't put this all on the parents. The community needs to react correctly to weather events, and in previous years, such a snowfall would have triggered at least a delay.

High schools have school buses too ya know? You are too good for that I guess.

+1. No one is forcing a MoCo parent to give their child their own car. There are buses or your kid can walk if close enough that a bus isn’t provided.

My kids aren't walking as its not safe. Few sidewalks and multiple major roads, including one an MCPS student got killed on.

It was cold. So many drivers called in. Didn't want to risk other people's kids.

BS that safety is how mcps makes their decisions.

Yeah, what a f lie

Drive your kid to school then. People do it around the world. You can do it too.

It's 7pm and still no apology letter?

Just came through but I’m not sure it’s an apology

They will. MCPS has rules about how far you can live away from the school without a bus being provided. If not, the kid can walk.

It's not an apology. Just an acknowledgement that today's decision was inconsistent with Tuesday's decision. Which is fair. MCPS didn't need to cancel for some rain on Tuesday, and it didn't need to cancel today for a snow dusting.

Why would they apologize? Today was a huge success.
