Oh, come on. Folks already bring up the cost of educating immigrants in every single thread about school funding. Having a whole separate high school would be a major cost center. |
MoCo is trying to sweep this crime under the rug. However, they are partly to blame since they chose to place an 18 year-old in the victims freshman class. How many others have they placed this way? |
|
Agreed. We can't get new schools for kids born here! Are you kidding me that tax dollars would go to a school for immigrants... and illegal at that?!?!
Look, MCPS knows that not only do these kids come in often w/o parents, w/o a history of schooling from their own countries and w/o speaking english... but they are coming out of situations of violence, gangs, drugs... Then they are dumped in classrooms with our kids. This should be stopped immediately. This incident has firmly tipped me against sanctuary city legislation. I still hate Trump though! I don't think a wall will work. Enforcing SSN checks to get hired for a job should be the highest priority. Then closing the doors to illegals in our schools. |
They already are. I follow budget deliberations closely in my county also located here in this area. Every time a school meets capacity, we have to build another one. This cost is in the millions! We might not "segregate" them, but they are the fastest-growing population. Bar none. We are literally building two schools a year to keep up! That means every time we build a school we need parking lots, playing fields, trees cleared, deer killed, more school busses on the roads. Get it, libs?? |
That has proven not to work. The provide fake SSNs. |
|
It doesn't need to be an entire school. Depending on how many we're talking about, it could be an all purpose room in another government building where they are taught English and life skills. I think it would be a cost savings and it would help with resource allocation. |
Emm.... I don't think the issue here is worrying about deer being hit by cars and trees being felled. We have plenty of both. Even in areas like Bethesda, with few illegal immigrants, the schools are bursting. It's not due to illegal immigrants, but because MoCo and the DC area, like the overall US population, is growing. We need more schools (and more everything else) for more people. |
Really? MOCO accepted 534 undocumented children in one year alone. That's basically one elementary school. |
That doesn't work anymore because of the new social security computer system. If the name doesn't match the SS number or if there are other things that are off (age, person already dead, person working in different states at same time, etc.), the computer system catches it and flags it. The real problem now is all the employers hiring Day laborers or calling people independent contractors. Look at your cleaning companies, your building contractors, etc. Go ask your contractor how many of the people on his crew are classified as employees and have worked with him for more than 30 days. |
A GED class would be a better setting for educating an 18 year-old undocumented immigrant who does not speak English. Placing an 18 year-old child with 14 year olds was a stupid move by MoCo. |
I agree. He does not look 18. |
So where should he live? |
MCPS has about 160,000 students. Whoever these 534 children are (and wherever you got that number from), they're not the reason for schools that are over capacity. |
