You all have been 'bullying' Tholen for a year. You can't take a day of legal celebrations in your opponent's favor?

We've been asking her to do her job; she didnt so we organized and brought her to court - and what happened yesterday was one Dem bailing out another Dem.

She did her job. You jist didn’t agree with her decisions. That doesn’t mean she should be recalled. A bunch of very entitled people tried this stunt and lost.

DP, but there are a lot of people in her district who don't agree with Tholen's decisions, whether it was her decisions about keeping schools closed, extending Brabrand's contract for a year, going along with TJ admissions changes that reduce the number of Dranesville students getting into TJHSST, or adjusting school boundaries to favor wealthy Langley.

I guess local Democratic activistscan keep calling everyone in Tholen's district who feels let down "entitled," but it doesn't position them very well for the next election.

But officials making unpopular decisions is not the criteria for recall. That’s what elections are for; vote her out. It is entitled to think you can recall people who have been elected bc you disagree with their decisions. Some people did want schools closed. Some parents wanted a change in the TJ admission process. Disagreeing with decisions is not the same as someone neglecting their duties. You guys have not made a sound argument on why Tholen and co were negligent, just that you don’t like their decisions.

Do you intentionally pretend everyone dissatisfied with Tholen is with #OpenFCPS? I didn't even bother signing the petition because the odds were clearly stacked against it, for reasons both legal (the standard for removal under the statute) and political (its ultimate disposition was always going to be in the hands of another Democratic official).

That doesn't change the fact that it will backfire on you guys when you keep slamming everyone who organized or signed the petitions, or otherwise is dissatisfied with Tholen. You reinforce the message that your crowd has no principles except self-preservation and trying to maintain a lock on political power in NoVa. One suspects this will come to an end in 2023.

Yeah was complete BS. Pat Hynes was the worst school board member I’ve seen and there was no case to remove her. Let Elaine do her job.

We tried to let elaine do her job - she failed at every turn. Failed worse than others. 5000 people (at least) agree.

elaine - now that we have your attention, we are coming for you in the election. Please announce soon that you will not seek re-election.

I suspect 'one' suspected a lot of things would come to fruition in 2020/2021 that never happened. You lost. Get over it and maybe...just maybe...support mask mandates when it comes down to it. I would hate to see FCPS descend into baseless shouting matches when its a simple ask.

She's still in office and will be until 2023. Instead of attacking a person - maybe just realize her decisions were based on community health as a whole including the thousands of students, teachers, and administrators connected to every school.

My crowd? What does that even mean? You guys project so much. Im not slamming. Stop seeing yourself as a victim. Being dissatisfied is not reason enough to recall an elected official. Yes we should wait until 2023. That’s what people who disagree with you are saying. Not happy with the status quo? Vote.

Please make room for someone who will focus on kids and educational standards not politics and the narrow demands of your support-base. Regardless of what the judge decides, please announce soon that you will not seek re-election. We all need to move on, and your stepping aside will be a major step in that process.

You're not entitled if you disagree with a politician--that's democracy. You're acting entitled when you disagree with policies, make false accusations (as the court found), engineer a recall that is handily dismissed (and then cry foul about its dismissal). These heavy-handed efforts around a SB position that has been stressful to hold at this time just alienates the average voter--and will likely backfire against the group in the next election. I'm perfectly fine with there being a competitive election--I just really dislike this kind of stance that we will try to get rid of democratically elected officials whose policies we disagree with. And somehow that's Democratic activism??? Abiding by elections?

While I didn't sign the petition, I followed this enough to know the court did not "find" that the allegations against Tholen were "false." The court instead accepted that the appointed Commonwealth's Attorney (like Tholen, an elected Democrat) wasn't prepared to pursue the case on the grounds that the standard for removal of an elected official wasn't met.

I don't think it's going to "backfire" because the recall effort did get a lot of people who in the past sat on the sidelines thinking more about what they want from their School Board. And they've realized that they aren't going to get it from someone from Elaine Tholen, whose tenure on the School Board has consisted of mostly rubber-stamping what other Democrats on the School Board want (such as Karl Frisch deciding that saving a dog park for his single friends was more important than relieving overcrowding at an elementary school in Providence) and rejecting an FCPS staff boundary recommendation in favor of something that benefitted her own neighborhood.

She'll likely be gone in 2023, along with quite a few other current SB members.

5000 out of 1.16 million. Whoop de woo.

Wow - ok how about 5000 people in Dranesville District. total population 116,000. Assuming 2/3rds are adults/registered voters gets us to around 38,000. Assuming 50% voter turnout gets us to 19,000.

Now how does the 5,000 signatures look?

whoop de woo indeed.

elaine is in big trouble in 2023. Hopefully she won't run at all. If she does, she will lose.

36 hours ago y’all said her recall was a done deal, now she’s done in 2 years.

Great predictions lol

No one is slamming a critique of a politician or a fair and competitive election. I could care less about Tholen; I care deeply about not thwarting democratic processes through baseless recalls.
