Teen Mom OG

Cate and Tyler make me so sad: they seemed so level headed and mature as teens. I would say I wonder what changed but clearly being reality tv personalities is what did it. They aren't active, don't engage with the world, and have never moved onto a life that doesn't revolve around or even involve Carly at all. Cate has gained probably 100 lbs and clearly lost herself completely. Poor Nova gets no stimulation or interaction because her mother weeps for "a connection" with a horse instead of with her daughter. Tyler is fed up. It's become such a sad, symbiotic relationship. Those two basically tied cement blocks to their feet and are in the process of drowning.

MTV should take some responsibility and cut off the filming/production unless they (all of them, not just Cate and Tyler) move forward and do something meaningful with their lives. Get an education! Get a job! Farrah is awful, but at least she is doing something, I guess.

It is so ridiculous! The point of the show initially was to show how hard it was to be a teen mom. Now these people are in their mid-20's and have it easy because they are paid so much by the show. Not reality at all!

I don't think it's reality tv, I think it's just reality period. What you see is what their real life is like. Being and staying motivated to make life long changes is hard and is even harder in an area where they are likely doing much better than a good portion of the population. Add in no role models or support.

I also believe that the rah, rah adoption is awesome shine has worn off for them and because neither were allowed to really grieve the loss at the time it happened, they are now having to deal with the grief now. Don't get me wrong, I truly believe that placing Carly was a good decision for Carly but it was not a decision without loss and grief for Cate and Tyler.

Yes, but without this show, this would NOT be their life. Jobs wouldn't be optional. Nor would leaving the house and showering. They actually had determination to get out of their originating families and lower class milieu, until this show and its attendant money came along and negated the need for that drive. They lost their hunger.

I wonder if the adoption would have even taken place, had it not been for the show? Let's assume that the show did not become a show but was just a one-time special. Maybe Cate and Tyler would have stayed together, but I'm guessing not. Maybe they would have furthered their education, but again, I'm guessing not. However, they would have had to get some form of a job. The show has enabled them both not to have to work "real jobs." Hope they've been saving some of their money, b/c I don't see the show going on forever (but maybe I'm wrong...it's gone on this long!) Does anyone question whether Dr. Drew is acting ethically by enabling this behavior?

The adoption would have gone through, I think.
Dr. Drew is horrible.

The adoption would have gone through---they were already pretty involved with it when 16&P started filming. I honestly think if it hadn't been for the show, Catelynn and Tyler would have a much closer relationship to the adoptive parents. I think they would have broken up, Tyler might have done something successful work-related (maybe military? he was interested in the Air Force at one point). Cate, I don't think would have done anything though. She does not seem very bright, and has even fewer role models than Tyler does. I think she would have gotten pregnant by someone else, maybe a few times over by now.

Also, "Dr." Drew is a piece of shit.

Farrah should be investigated by CPS and her poor daughter be given to someone who will raise her in a sane and loving home. She is legitimately and literally a truly terrible person to her very core. It's disgusting and heartbreaking at the same time, I feel so sad for little Sophia. Watching her makes me want to go hug my kid and never yell at her again.

Why would you want to waste CPS time? Most case workers are overworked as it is, dealing with kids who are actually being abused and neglected. Sophia has food to eat, a safe place to live, and no one is hitting her, verbally abusing her, or sexually abusing her. Let CPS worry about the children who DON'T have that.

If CPS didn't go after the Duggars, they're not going after Farrah. Sophia is actually one of the best cared-for kids on the show. Poor Nova doesn't even have pants.

I haven't watched in awhile, it makes me too sad - why doesn't Nova have pants? What is the status of that home?

Seriously Caitlyn and Tyler are heartbreaking. I think they're an example of how hard it can be to overcome family cycles of mental illness, apathy, substance abuse, etc. They were so fresh eyed and motivated as kids. I do agree that the MTV money enabled them more not to move forward with their lives, but I think it would have been the case anyway, just in a more impoverished way. And I think that's what their future looks like. I don't blame the adoptive parents either. I would have been more than scared off by the lack of boundaries that the bio parents and grandparents have displayed, as far as maintaining stability for the child. Ugh, that whole scenario is so sad, but at least Carly is in a good home, and will be able to look back and see that her bio family truly loved her, but just couldn't leverage resources or life skills enough to care for her as well as they felt she deserved to be cared for.

Agreed. I think Cate and Tyler would have been much healthier had their story only been the one episode. But now their "story" has become them wallowing over the adoption of Carly. The constant prodding to dicsuss her and what they did has held them back. They've never been able to grieve giving her up and then move forward.

And I agree with the other poster that said without this show, they would have been forced to get jobs and get off the couch. I think they also wouldn't be together. And would be much happier as a result.

To be fair, I think they're legit trying to potty train, and I know the bare bottom method is common. But C&T seem to not care that Nova is running around bare bottomed during filming, and MTV has no qualms about showing it. They've also posted full frontal pics of her on social media, and not taken any gentle criticisms of that to heart.

Carly is going to grow up and thank her lucky stars that she got away from that mess.

I think that they are potty training her. She didn't have on diapers either and I remember them putting her on the potty in the living room in one scene a few weeks ago.
