+1 The whole presser is here:

Wow. 1:22pm Mother texts 'Ethan don't do it'. 1:37pm Father calls 9/11 and reports a gun missing. The same gun was stored unlocked in a drawer in their bedroom.

The shooting started at 12:51PM. Little late mom.

Though she may have meant , "Dont kill yourself" (which is how many of these incidents end)

Why would she be texting Don't kill yourself after seeing a news report of an active shooter at a school? He could have killed himself at home if that was the concern.

Nevertheless, does anyone really doubt that had the kid left with his parents after that meeting, he wouldn't have just come back later with his gun and shot up the place anyway? I mean, Adam Lanza wasn't a student at Sandy Hook anymore. And wasn't the shooter in Parkland also suspended or a former student?

Well they should have also taken away his gun (in truth they never should have bought him one). So I think it’s a combination of also taking away access to a gun. I suppose when he turned 18 he could have come back, or maybe this all could have been prevented without immediate gun access to act on impulse.

People keep thinking this kid is suicidal when he’s homicidal.

Why not both. Once he pulled the trigger once, his life was over. He will likely die in prison and he would have had to have been delusion to not know it.

It’s pretty clear to me that if he was suicidal he would have shot himself at the scene.

Homicide-suicides are very common.

AGAIN, if people listened to the press conference, they would realize the kid expressed signs of homicidal AND suicidal ideation.

It is like some of these posters can't keep two ideas in their brain at once. You can want to kill others, before you kill yourself. Your parents AND school administrators could have BOTH erred in the lead up to this tragedy.

It does not have to be one or the other.

Life and humans are complex.

Does anyone know off hand what the laws are around schools/searches of private backpacks? Would the school have had a right to search his backpack?

I’m pretty sure they can for any reason. We used to have random back pack searches in high school.

Hang the parents. Demons produce demons.

He might have chickened out

It’s been pretty close lately between these ones and Brian Launderie’s.

I assumed the text was imploring him to not kill himself at the scene.

Anonymous wrote:So many excuses. Kids around the world are playing violent video games, getting bullied, having mental health issues, in dysfunctional families, etc. Just the same as American kids including this kid. What's the difference? ONE THING. Guns.

I suspect he was born with challenges/defects – and he was not getting the support he needed at school and from the local public health dept. High-strength glasses since youth, face shape, big ears, pudginess, and he looks a few years younger than a normal 15 year old. And we can look at his parents. Their run-down neglected home in hickville and the mother's public letter to Trump. And Michigan is one of the top states for opioid overdoses.

And there are thousands of these kids all over the world. They don't have access to guns is the difference.

Yes, they do.

Do you not understand how America is completely different from any other nation on gun access? I just can’t fathom how blind people are here. The rest of the world does not live like this. They don’t fear for their kids going to school or the cinema or a club or anywhere like we have to because of the sheer number of these events. This country has lost the plot.

So the good news is, you have plenty of options for your move to a place that suits you better.

Oh, no, sweetie. We’re not moving. We’re staying here and voting for leaders who are pro gun control.

Have you tried to get a child help in the last 2 years? Have you tried to find a therapist for anyone in the last two years? It is damn near impossible. We have been on waiting lists upon waiting lists for my child.
I don't disagree that he should of gotten help but we have no idea what action they tried to take or what they knew prior to one week ago when they were first made aware of the situation. And yes, they should have locked the gun or gotten rid of it.

I hear you pp It can be near impossible to get a child help even when you have money and good insurance--I can't imagine what it's like when you are "dirt poor!"
The parents met with school admin the same day--I'm wondering what admin actually said about what these "poor" parents could do to get the kid help? Did they have a psychiatric hospital to recommend (that was actually able to accept new patients? And that these "dirt poor" parents could afford?)

JFC. There is an urgent care or ER on almost every corner of any city, and certainly at least one fo the other in each town - they can refer you to plenty of resources. Stop making up excuses and being so GD lazy and selfish.

The “resources” are exactly what I was given. You don’t bring a kid who is sad to an ER for treatment. Stop being so ignorant and uneducated.

Who said anything about “sad?” The only ignorant and uneducated person here is you.

DP. Okay, so you're basically voting for every losing candidate from now until 2050 right?

The “creeps” at Columbine who were ostracized and bullied by their classmates?

Gee, you think there *might* be something to this whole bullying thing?

Wow, are you behind. The “Columbine shooters were just bullied kids” line was disproven years ago.

(and if you don’t like BI as a source, don’t worry. Google can find you plenty more).
