Hopefully him and Melanie M are next. But I understand the logic in going after the ones that require the fewest signatures first. |
| I saw some chick holding a recall sign in McLean today. I just shook my head and kept driving. |
I think the buok of those willing to put in the hours on organizing the petitions and signings are from Cohen and Tholens districts. I am sure that if there are voters from Frisch' district who reach out to that petition group, they would be happy to help you get set up with a petition drive. |
What unions? |
The ones for which the current School Board tries to set aside speaking slots. |
Shit, why bother having elections at all then? |
You saw some chick?
|
Your logic is impeccably bad. The legislature saw fit to establish additional vehicles to hold elected officials accountable beyond periodic elections. I guess that bothers people who have no problem with out-of-touch school board members who act like they answer to no one but other insiders. |
Haha, nothing will happen. |
You’re basically setting the precedent that all elections are invalid and that terms of office have no meaning. But if that’s what it takes to get to sleep at night, then go off King, I guess. |
There are recalls of elected officials attempted every year. Ballotpedia keeps track. So far it hasn’t destroyed the republic. |
| Lawful recall efforts as established under state law. But, they won’t succeed. |
|
Success can be measured different ways. It sends a message when enough residents are disgusted with a local official's behavior that they are the subject of a recall effort, especially if the effort gathers enough signatures to trigger judicial scrutiny of the official's conduct. If a new election is required, even better.
At a minimum, it appears that, by July, there will be enough signatures to recall Elaine Tholen to require her to show cause why she should not be unseated. |
Why are you so committed to defending these dingbats? I’m a Democrat but it’s ok to admit that the SB members are, by and large, in over their heads and should be replaced. Also if we elected the SB on a rolling/rotating basis, instead of electing the whole board at once every 4 years, we could mitigate some of these problems caused by inexperienced and ineffectual members. |
+1. There is a certain type of Democrat that does not know how to do anything other than claim those with whom they disagree must support Trump and those who stormed the Capitol on January 6th. Life is a bit more complicated, and what happened on January 6th isn't some insurance policy that gives elected Democrats the right to do whatever they want in perpetuity without facing the consequences - whether it's criticism, a recall effort, or a defeat in the next election. Anyone with a brain knows the current FCPS School Board is dysfunctional and way too partisan, and would be a far better body with a more balanced group of members who rein in each other's worst instincts. Instead, apart from McLaughlin, the current members fail to challenge each other in any meaningful way, and only compete with each other to see who can win the "most woke" prize. |
