How much does religion matter with regard to your kids’ future spouses

In my heart of hearts I prefer no religion. But for the most part I would never say anything because that's not my business.

If the person was a racist or misogynist I would say something.

So it won't bother you if they won't go to church with you? If they don't celebrate Christmas? If they ask that you NOT send christmas gifts?

Nope. BTW, Jesus preached love, not frenetic gift buying.

My kids would never ask someone not to send gifts
What religion is against that?

Same here. Especially since my ILs did not treat me with love and respect in the beginning due to religious issues. I've been there and will NEVER do that to my kids.

Religion most likely was not the reason why they treated you the way they did. Religion was just an excuse

No militant atheists, please. We have one in the family already (BIL) and he spends family get togethers trying to start fights about religion while everybody else tries not to engage with him.

And I’m not a fan of people who use their religion—any religion—as a sort of cultural “team” or club that somehow makes them more special than everybody else. All the major world religions seem vulnerable to this, for somewhat different reasons in each case, but the people I admire the most are the ones that show the tolerant, inclusive side of their religion.

100%

I have one child who is Hashem obsessed and it would set off a lot of red flags for me if spouse is not Jewish.

My other child is a strong athiest and it would set off a lot of red flags for me if spouse is any religion besides athiest or agnostic.

I think compatibility in religion is very important for spouse.

My primary concern is that my children are good and decent people. Therefore it is my greatest desire that they marry good and decent people. Atheist.

FYI: agnostic and athiest are not religions. They are the lack of religion.

This for us too. Prefer intelligent, educated and atheist/agnostic but wouldn’t mention that. Character by far most important. The only thing we don’t tolerate is intolerance so I’d only ever comment if I worried about environment grandchild would be brought into (religious cults, believing only one true or acceptable religion/way of being, hate expressed about others).

If they brought some hateful tucker carlson degenerate home though I’d have no problem kicking them out and would sit and reflect on what a terrible job I did as a parent. So, my tolerance does have limits.

What happened to that thread a few days ago where consensus was that major religions, other than Christians, view other religions as equal, and that no single religion is "the religion?"

You cannot possibly have the documents to prove this. Is it inscribed in stone tablets??

Not one iota, unless they were actively caring about practicing a religon my offspring would not be interested in, but marrying anyway thinking things would "work out."

No religion really works out, too!

Concensus, lol. You mean DCUM’s atheists, Jews and Muslims once again ganged up to trash Christianity, and there were no Christians here because we avoid this forum for exactly this reason.

I’m on this forum tonight. Before that I haven’t been on in six months. For a reason—this forum is like mean girls in steroids, so why engage with it. In fact, it’s time to leave. Have a good evening!

PS. The fact that I have no clue what “consensus” thread you’re talking about should have tipped you off.
