Adding, I’m a small (micro) business that closed last week and am debating staying dark another. Losing actual income.

I can't compensate a person for behaving like a Ferengi instead of a minimally-decent human being.

I would like to remind that person, however, that it's not good for tourism when DC is bristling with security forces to defend against people trying to overthrow the government.

It isn't minimally-decent of me to forgo income I rely on.
Any long term effects on tourism are speculative and unrelated to what, I individually will do. I'm not going to incur a known loss today on the abstract idea that it might somehow have a long-term impact on income down the line.

PROFIT.

You say that as if it is a bad thing. This is really what the country has come to. And people count on the (saying quietly since apparently it is a dirty word) profit to pay basic living expenses.

Someone planning on renting out their place is also losing "actual income" and you are absolutely free to make the choice that makes the most sense for you and your business. Trying to impose those views on others is the problem.

The ends justify the means, eh?

Welp. I hope they feel as righteous about it if the unfortunate happens. I personally would not. Their conscience.

I'm sure plenty of people justified their support for Nazis with money back in the day.

Is anybody on this thread, or anybody in DC, forcing you to delist your property? No. Unless AirBnB makes you take it down, but that's ok, because AirBnB is absolutely free to make the choice that makes the most sense for their business.

No, I am saying profit shouldn't be a dirty word. It is the foundation of our capitalist society, which is falling apart based on your mindset.

Not even Adam Smith agrees with you on this, actually. I'm referring to the economist, not the congressman from Washington state.

Yes, AirBnB would be free to do that. And, while no one is forcing anyone to delist (I've never said they were), they are certainly trying to pressure people into doing it by calling me (and others) all sorts of names and making accusations. That's fine. You are entitled to your opinion. I am entitled to disregard it as sanctimonious drivel, which I intend to do.

You get to have your opinion, other people get to have their opinions about your opinion, that's how it works.

But as the PP said, if you can't afford to give up one week's income to avoid the liability (legal as well as moral) of potentially renting to terrorists, then maybe this isn't the right business for you.
